And Then There Were Three
After getting Lydia out of the picture, the three strongest players, Rafe, Danni and Stephenie had a final Immunity Challenge which would also guarantee the winner a spot in the Final Two. In other words, it was vital to win.
The task was grueling as they had to keep their feet on a constantly shifting balance beam while holding on to two ropes. They ultimately had to let go of the ropes and stay on by any means necessary. The three of them found a way of leaning against a wooden pole and then it was a matter of endurance and sheer guts.
Surprisingly, Rafe was the first one to lose his footing and then Steph developed a debilitating backache as she was sliding further and further down the pole. Besides that it was very hot which made the challenge even more difficult. Danni found a position and never moved. She showed strength of mind that was impressive to say the least. Considering that she had scoliosis and her backbone was grinding against the pole, she did a good job of acting like she could stay there longer than Steph which gave her a huge psychological advantage. Her height was also helpful.
As we all know by now, when Stephenie crumbled to the ground in agony and began to cry, both Rafe and Danni tried to comfort her and that was when Rafe said those fateful words that he could never take back. He told Danni that he releases her of any obligation to keep her word to him and take him to the Final Two. Danni, who thought all along that Rafe might win if she took him, seemed very relieved. However, I believe that Danni would have taken Stephenie along with her anyway.
Lydia And Rafe On the Internet
On "Survivor Live" this morning, the guests were Rafe and Lydia. Rafe said that he would never regret having freed Danni from her commitment to him. He also believes that she would have taken Stephenie with her simply because she would have had a better chance against her than Rafe.
Lydia just blabbered a lot about insulting the Maya gods by eating the sacrificial chicken. (This was part of a traditional ceremony that they were treated to by Mayans.) As a matter of fact, a horrendous thunderstorm suddenly came down and if that isn't proof that the gods were angry, nothing was. Personally, I believe in the forces of nature.
Lydia went on about how hard she worked around the camp. She thought of herself as the "mother" of these "kids" and tried to set an example with her positive attitude and so on. She called Judd a big teddy bear (oh yeah!) whose bark was worse than his bite. Jamie was still considered a bit nutty by both of them.
She thought Steph "owed" her. At the family reunion, instead of letting her spend time with the brother that she hadn't seen in two years (why?) Stephanie asked her for money and got to be with her boyfriend. That was because Judd picked her and Cindy to share his reward. I just don't get this woman.
Lydia wanted to be part of the Final Three. In fact, she approached Stephanie with that proposal, but was told that she wasn't sure what Rafe wanted. Yet Steph didn't exactly discourage Lydia either. Lydia had served her purpose and now it was time for her to go.
