Cory F. The Gauntlet II
Bad Decisions Begat Bad Results

Commentary by Cory F.
December 17, 2005
Well, this episode starts off with everyone talking about Beth's favorite subject; Beth. I don't know what is with this girl; it might be that she has been perceived wrong on every single challenge she has been on. You can be sure when drama goes around; Beth is in the thick of it.

The challenge this week is a relay-wheelbarrow race. However, one male and one female are exempted from both the challenge and the Gauntlet. The exempted are chosen by their teammates. I don't think there should be any exemptions like this because these are teams, win or lose. One or two people not participating in a challenge will not make that much of a difference. And, besides, this is just another reason for Beth to start some drama.

Beth and Montana get into an argument about who should be safe and who should be in the competition. I do not care for Beth and I do not think that the producers should keep bringing her back just to create drama. On the other hand, I do like Montana a little and would rather she stay than Beth. And Montana gets her wish, with her and Syrus being exempted.

During the challenge, the Veterans have a huge lead over the Rookies, but this all changes when Robin starts walking with her wheelbarrow. All of a sudden, Alton takes off and I think Derrick says it best "it's like Alton just hits the turbo button and he's gone". And even after Alton passes her, Robin is still moving slowly. Beth, actually surprises me when she did the whole lap rather quickly and didn't take any breaks. Robin, being shown up on a challenge by Beth deserves to be in the Gauntlet.

Even with Beth, Julie, Mark, and everyone else trying to salvage the mission, Robin's mistake is too costly and the Rookies are just too far ahead and win the challenge, signaling my favorite girl Ruthie going into the Gauntlet.

Now, I don't like Beth but I do have to give props when props are due. Beth did rather well on this challenge, she stepped up and tried to lessen the lead between the Rookies. On the other hand, I like Robin a lot, but she lost the mission for the Veterans and therefore deserved to be in the Gauntlet with Ruthie. But, the Vets choose Beth, not Robin, to go against Ruthie.

I'm sorry, but are these people stupid. I know you want team chemistry and for the drama queen to leave. I understand that, but when the drama queen works hard and actually tries, and another person basically loses the mission for the team, put that person in the Gauntlet; let them pay for their mistake.

And, of course, when you try to get Beth out of the game, fate messes up the plan, this time by putting "Big Beth" against "Ruthie the Runt" in Reverse Tug of War. When Beth tries to back out, TJ pushes Beth to go for it (WHY TJ???) and Beth agrees to do the Gauntlet. They both try really hard, but Beth is just too big for Ruthie to fight against and Beth grabs the flag, sending my girl home.

Derrick once again says the same thing I'm thinking when he says "Man, what did we just do?"

That's right you bunch of idiots. You are supposed to vote off the weak people, but today, Beth wasn't the weakest, Robin was, who should have paid for her mistake and gone up against Ruthie.

As Beth moves into the Captain's Quarters I can also hope this doesn't bring the Veterans down and they lose more awesome players like Ruthie.

And I can only hope that this tragedy will open the Veterans' eyes and they won't make another stupid ass decision like this again. But we can only hope.
