Jillian Kuras Survivor Guatemala
Steph Is The Best

Commentary by Jillian Kuras
November 11, 2005
This season of Survivor has been filled with many twists and turns. But perhaps the biggest twist so far has been bringing back Stephanie and Bobby Jon. When I first heard the rumors that these two might be returning for another season, I anxiously crossed my fingers hoping the rumor was true. Not because I like Bobby Jon, but because I LOVE Stephanie.

Since the very first day of Palau, Stephanie was my absolute favorite of the group. Seeing her suffer miserably after getting stuck on a crappy tribe made me more upset with each passing week. I thought she was one of the strongest and best competitors in Palau so her eventual departure was disappointing to me.

At the beginning of this season, Jeff made the comment that Stephanie was one of the best females Survivor has seen. While I admit I have not seen every season of Survivor, of the ones I have seen I agree by far, that Steph is the best.
She's physically, mentally and emotionally one of the strongest players, male or female. She always plays a fair game and she's just fun to watch. Her personality is real and likeable and as I said, I'm a huge fan.

It was made clear on this week's episode that no one will ever win the game of Survivor without telling a lie or two. Gary was so offended by Judd's lie about the idol clue. And yet Gary has been telling the biggest lie of them all since day one. Bobby Jon managed to convince a few of his friends that Steph should be the one eliminated this week because she has played an unfaithful game in the past. Well Bobby Jon, I would like you to make me a list of all the people who have won Survivor without ever telling a single lie. Somehow I don't think it can be done.

As the season winds down, we are left with eight contestants. There are a few I wouldn't mind seeing win, there are few I seriously hope don't win and then of course there's Steph. Other than Stephanie, I would be okay if either Rafe or Cindy won. I won't be rooting for them but if they do win, good for them.

It's hard to say who doesn't deserve the win. I personally don't really like Jamie, Gary or Judd (even though Judd does keep me entertained). The three of them have played a sneaky game but hey, that's sort of the point. I really don't see any of them as a threat to win though at this point.

So that leaves Danni and Lydia. Lydia falls into the 'no threat' category so the others will keep her around for awhile. But like the other non-threats before her (Katie, Scout, etc) she also stands no chance at winning. As for Danni, I'm sort of indifferent with her. I don't dislike her, I just don't really like her all that much either.

With just a few weeks left to go, I will be pushing full steam ahead for Steph. I know many will argue that she doesn't deserve the title since she already had her shot but clearly, her tribe mates don't mind. If they did, she and Bobby Jon would have been the first two to go. Not two out of nine who now make up the all important jury.

Just like in Palau, I've been rooting for Steph since day one. A few weeks into the season, when there were still two tribes filled with members whose names I could barely keep straight, I remember talking about the game with other devoted watchers (namely family and friends). And what was funny was that everyone was saying the same thing. They could care less what happened this season as long as Stephanie won. Everybody I know loves Stephanie and we are all eagerly awaiting the finale when hopefully she will be declared the rightful winner.
