Previously on Two-A-Days, Hoover lost their first game of the season, ending their 27-game winning streak. And quarterback Ross was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after sustaining an injury during the game.
Our episode begins with Max headed out of his house toward the car with his gym bag. He says that Coach Propst is pissed, and he knows this practice will be miserable. Alex is driving to practice as well, and he says that the team's national ranking is destroyed after the last game. They were number two, and he would be surprised now if they were in the top 25. While driving, Alex says that it's going to be extremely physically and mentally challenging, and he knows that he personally can handle it, but knows some of the other guys will question their desire.
On the field, all of the players are kneeled in front of Rush, awaiting the hell that they all know is coming. Rush asks the whole team if any of them feel that they played with the desire and heart to win on Friday night. Cornelius raises his hand, and Rush actually agrees that Cornelius really did show true spirit and tried his best to win. He also acknowledges Bryan's efforts in the game. He addresses Max, and says that he feels that Max did play hard at times, but he didn't play well. He acknowledges the three players that did try hard, but he says that he needs the rest of the team's effort as well. He asks Cornelius if he thinks the others played hard, but before Cornelius has a chance to answer, Rush interrupts and answers for him, saying that they did not. I suspect that's what Cornelius would have answered anyway, as he probably scared to death to answer Rush in any other way. Remember, who holds the key to their college football dreams? "Ding!"
Rush continues, saying the Cornelius is the one guy who had the guts to stand up and say he played hard, and he also had the guts to say that the others did not. Rush commends the way Cornelius responded, saying that is one of the key elements of being a leader. Alex tells us that none of them tried hard enough on the last game. They were scared, and not a single one of them can look back and honestly say that they left everything on the field. I thought Cornelius already did.
Rush switches the topic to Ross's injury during the last game. Ross is present at the practice, and Rush says that if he can play on the next game, then he will, but if not, they will go with Cornelius, who is also a great quarterback. Ross explains to us that he sustained a concussion, and after getting two doctors' opinions, one said that he may need to sit out for a month, while the other suggested that he only take a one week break. Either way, it doesn't sound as if Ross is in any condition to play this week.
After Rush ends the lecture, the hardcore practice begins. Alex says that they all expected to pretty much be killed at practice the entire week after the loss to Tuscaloosa County. Alex's suspicions are quickly confirmed, as we see Jeremy rushing out on to the field, screaming, "What the hell are you doing?" to one player. How nice. Alex adds that to top everything off, they are facing off against their biggest rivals on Friday night.
Rush tells us that he doesn't mind losing, which I'm sure is definitely not the truth. His issue was with the way they lost. Rush adds that the team looked unprepared and played without any desire. Jeremy is still being an ass out on the field, taking off his hat and hitting passing players with it. After his hat falls on the ground, he quickly picks it back up to use for future beatings. He proceeds to yell at the players, asking if they are really that stupid. Rush says that he's going to be tough on the team, but I think Jeremy is doing a fine job for the both of them. Rush adds that he thinks the team is "starved for discipline", and then repeats it several more times for effect, and then adds that the players will just have to handle it. I bet no one can guess what Jeremy is doing. If you said still screaming at the players, you win a prize! He is yelling for them to "Get their asses back". The players continue their intense practice, and from the sidelines, Max says that he wants to kill somebody right now. I bet he has one specific person in mind. Can anyone guess who?
Rush has called all of the players together, forcing them to do an exercising of flopping down on the ground, and then proceeding to get back up as quickly as possible. By this point, all of the players look exhausted and beaten down. The day is getting darker, and the players are still performing the same practice exercise. It is now nighttime, and the all-day torture camp, I mean practice, has finally ended.
Max heads home, yawning the whole way. Once he arrives at home, he sits down at the dining room table for dinner. His stepfather, Jim, asks him how the practice went. Max says that it was alright, pretty much indicating that he doesn't really want to discuss. Jim asks Max if he had fun, and Max's face says it all, as you can obviously tell he did not from today's concentration camp. Max answers that he had fun when they were winning, but today wasn't fun at all. Jim encourages him to start having fun, and adds that he thinks the team found out that on any given Friday, they may get their asses whipped. Max is obviously finished with the conversation, as he gets up and walks off without even acknowledging Jim's last comments, which I'm sure didn't make his day any better.
I have no idea whose house they are at, but Alex, Goose, and linebacker Cory are all together, and playing poker. Goose says that Rush wasn't mean today, which was nice. However, he doesn't mention Jeremy. Alex says that he was the same old [expletive] he usually is. Fill in the blank with your favorite expletive to describe the coach. Alex says that although he feels that the players are athletically better this year, last year's team seemed to always do the right thing. They begin discussing who they think the best player is, but they quickly switch the topic to Max. Alex says that he doesn't think Max is a bad player, but sometimes he just holds his head down and quits. They all acknowledge that Max has a ton of pressure on him, between his stepfather, the coaches, and himself. Cory says that this should be fun and the best times of their lives, and they should have more fun with it instead of treating it like it is a job.
Over at the bowling alley, Repete has gone out with a group of friends, including his girlfriend, Megan, who is a cheerleader. What a shocker! Megan does go to a different high school, and she and Repete have been dating for a month-and-a-half. Repete says that he told Megan that he loves her, but he's not sure if he meant it as a girlfriend, or just as someone he loves to be around. He says that they have a lot in common, and he loves hanging around with girls, saying that he's a ladies man and loves the women. The other girl who is with them begins to bowl, but we can't see any reaction to her throw, as her face is blurred out. I don't understand why you would go out with a group of people who you know are being filmed if you don't want your face shown. Who doesn't want to be on MTV anyway? Repete then compliments Megan, saying that she is a "dime piece", and he would rate her a nine, not a ten, because no one is ever a ten, but Megan is fly. What a nice compliment, I guess. The group finishes up their game, and hugs each other goodbye, and I have to say, Repete is a crappy bowler. Repete asks his friend what he thought of Megan, and I don't understand much of his friend's response, but I did pick up that Megan seems cool and is a cute bowler. Repete determines from those comments, along with his own personal feelings, that she may be a keeper.
The next day at school, Blair and Kristin are still discussing the last game. Blair can't believe the outcome, and Kristin is still in shock. Blair thinks that the team still played hard (she may be the only one who thinks that), and they need to keep their heads up. Blair asks Jessica, another cheerleader who has joined in the conversation, if she heard that Ross has a concussion. Jessica has heard about it, and adds that he was throwing up and passed out. Blair says that she hung out with Ross on Saturday, and he was still vomiting. Blair is hopeful that the team will take last week's loss and use it to motivate themselves for the next game. Kristin says that she told Alex that if no other seniors are willing to step up and be a leader to the team. She also told Alex that he has to step up, because otherwise, the team will not go anywhere very quickly.
Blair switches the topic to Homecoming, which she thinks will be fun. Kristin says that she doesn't have a date, and she doesn't know who to ask. Blair and Jessica start ragging on her, saying that she knows good and well that she has a date, but Kristin denies it. Kristin adds that her mom asks her everyday if she has a date yet, to which she replies that she does not. Alex and Cory walk out of school across the parking lot, and Alex asks Cory if he has a date to Homecoming. He does, as he is taking a girl named Rachel. Alex says that he has to do something for Kristin, so she won't think he is a complete failure. Cory suggests for him to put a bouquet of roses in her car, which Alex seems to think is a decent idea.
In the locker room, the coaches.....
