American Idol 5
Innocent Kevin Connives With His Ex
Commentary & Report by Ron Lemon
March 14, 2006
You may have read elsewhere that sweet and innocent Kevin Covais dumped his high-school sweetheart in the belief that more young teenage girls, thinking he was single, would vote for him. I'm not sure why young teenage girls would vote for the nasal toned Chicken Little look-a-like but that is another story.
The truth is sweet innocent Kevin is not so sweet and innocent. In fact he is doing what he can to manipulate the vote. He did not dump his girlfriend. The truth is that sweet and innocent Kevin along with his girlfriend, Victoria Fairclough, connived to announce the separation so that young teenage girls would vote for him. And that's the word straight from alleged dumpee Victoria.
Maybe now that the deed is done Victoria is not so happy about it. According to Tmz.com "they broke up when 'Idol' began because they agreed he'd gain more popularity if his fans knew he was single."
So is he really single? Victoria tells Tmz "that she and Kevin still talk several times each day, even though his schedule's becoming more hectic now that 'Idol' is kicking into high gear." "He's my best friend still," she says. "We'll remain friends," she continues, although she isn't sure if they'll ever get back together."
Sounds like Victoria is not so sweet and innocent either. Is she trying to play both sides? Help Kevin out while he is on Idol, but leave the door open for a make-up-after-the-break-up? And why would she want to stay in Kevin's good graces? Is turn-about fair play?
More truth - Victoria is an Idol wannabe. She'll be old enough to audition next year and she plans on it. According to Tmz in "their Island Trees High School, 'I.T. Idol' competition, Kevin sang 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' and 'Daughters', while Victoria sang 'The Wizard & I' (from the musical 'Wicked') and 'I Will Always Love You' -- she came in first" "He was upset that I won," she says. "But he was still happy for me. He was proud of me."
As we watch and enjoy this year's American Idol let's remember it is about careers, image, and millions of dollars. Do you really think there is any sweet and innocent contestants? Or will they all do whatever it takes?
