American Idol: Who Should Win? The Fans Have Their Say
May 23, 2006
|
Since last weeks American Idol elimination of Elliott Yamin the fans have been offering their opinions of who should win American Idol 5. A fan survey on Reality TV Calendar has Taylor Hicks with 71% of the vote and Katherine McPhee with 29%. Betting sites across the web place the odds heavily on Taylor to win. Fan email to Reality TV Calendar is running three to one in favor of Taylor.
Here is a sampling of what the fans are saying about Taylor and Kat.
I am sad that even with her advancement to the finals, Kat continues to receive poor press and reviews. With rare exception, her comments from the judges were always negative. I am amazed that she continued to smile through it all. It seems as though she can do nothing right! They even complain about her smiling when she heard that she was the one going to the finals! Anyone would smile when given this opportunity! Give me a break! She is really an amazing technical singer, and anyone with music ability, knows that. Everyone seems so against her, when she truly has the best voice, the best marketability, and the best chance of success in the music world. Let's hope she can make it!

From the first few seconds of Taylor's audition, my wife and I both knew he would be our favorite this year, and he hasn't disappointed us. Does he have the best voice? Probably not. Was he the best-looking? Probably not. Is he a good dancer? The only person I can think of that's a worse dancer is Mick Jagger, but that hasn't seemed to hurt his career too badly. But what he has is unique these days: The ability to project to viewers that he really loves what he's doing, and that he really loves the fact you are being entertained by his music. I can't remember the last time I smiled throughout a song, and I've done that for 11 weeks in a row now.
Tom - Minnesota
Maybe it's just me, but does Kat have to scream all the time? Personally, I think she would be better off doing musicals on Broadway. And I know all you Kat fans are going to scream at me, but I thought Somewhere Over The Rainbow. But, hey, I'm not a music critic. I think Taylor is great. I would pay to see him in concert and I would definitely buy his CD. He's fun to listen to and he can get a crowd up on its feet. I'm not sure who is going to win it all.
Patti - New Jersey
I watch weekly and all I see Taylor do is the same thing over and over. If it's a fast song, he's got those knees bent and he's jumping and running all over the auditorium yelling. If it's a slow song, it's the same as the last slow song he sang. He breathes at the wrong time; he makes faces and then he still has to yell at the end. I don't think he ever takes a chance and does anything differently. He's never told he's over the top nor criticized for not being the original. Kat tries different things--sometimes they work; sometimes they don't, but that makes her an exciting performer. She's improved tremendously. I liked Taylor from the very begining, but now I'm bored by his same old, same old performances. I wish he's straightened up his knees just once in a while--he looks so awkward!
Ann - Florida
I'd like to see Kat win because she has the most potential to be successful although I would not put her in the category of great singers. Taylor types can be seen and heard at thousands of locations around the country. Selling a million CD's for the winner is almost a given however after the 1st CD, it takes real talent Look at Ruben. It's getting extremely annoying to watch Paula's bias towards the male singers. It's nothing new and I'd dump her for somebody who can be unbiased and objective.
JJ - Ohio
The most interesting and competitive final would be Taylor and Katharine. Katharine's vocal and performance ability matched with Taylor's personality would be "worth the price of admission." Katharine is the most marketable vocal talent remaining in the competition.
Bob - Virginia
While I like Katherine voice.....
