American Idol 5: Top 12 Results Show
Bottom 3 Surprises: You Gotta Vote!
Recap By Jillian Kuras
March 16, 2006
Welcome to Wednesday night on American Idol! After last night's performances by the top twelve, the contestant with the lowest amount of votes will be heading home tonight.
I thought last night's show was pretty good. My favorites have always been Lisa, Katharine and Ace and I was really happy with all three last night. I actually tried to vote for all three as well. I waited until 11:45 p.m. so there was only about 15 minutes left to vote. I figured the lines would be free and clear by this point and I would be able to get through without problems.
I voted for Katharine first and I called about five or six times. I got through every time without problems. I dialed Lisa's number next and I tried about four times. I only got through twice. And finally, I called Ace's number. Again, I tried about four times but I couldn't get through at all. I thought it was a little weird I was still getting busy signals for these two so late in the allotted time.
Anyways, after last night's show, I thought the bottom three SHOULD be Kellie, Melissa and Bucky with Kellie going home. Kellie was definitely the weakest of the night, especially when I watched the show back a second time. However, I thought the bottom three WOULD be Melissa, Bucky and Kevin with Kevin going home. I thought Kevin tried to rely just a little too much on his personality last night.
Tonight's show begins with Ryan telling us that about 32 ½ million votes were received last night. After a recap of the performances, we are treated to our first commercial break and it's only 9:04.
As we return from break, it seems the producers have picked up right where they left off last season- with the cheesy Ford commercials. I was really hoping we would be spared from these this year. Tonight's commercial features the contestants singing the song All I Want by Toad The Wet Sprocket. The scene is some sort of outdoor campsite with Ace dressed up as Big Foot and Katharine as the park ranger. Genius! Award winning!
After the horrible 'commercial', Stevie Wonder is back to serenade us all with a song. He sings My Love Is On Fire from his new album A Time To Love. Even though I know Stevie wanted to promote his new album, I was really hoping he would sing one of his older classics that the audience could actually sing along to.
Finally, it is time to get down to the serious business of the night! The contestants are all seated out on the couches as always. Ace is first in line and his recap from last night is read. Kevin is next to him and his is read as well. Ryan tells the guys that one of them is safe and one is in the bottom three. The first member of the bottom three tonight is… Ace. Oh that was funny. Ryan accidentally said Ace instead of Kevin. But wait, Ace is getting up and walking towards the center of the stage. What's going on here? I'm confused.
Ryan takes a moment to speak.....
