American Idol 5: Top 24 Prediction
Who Is Going Home And Why?
By The RTVC Staff
February 23, 2006
Each week during American Idol 5 the staff writers of Reality TV Calendar will offer their opinions on who will be going home. You'll see different opinions, but more often than not you'll see a consensus. But if you are a fan of the show you know how difficult it is to predict how the public will vote. Last year we were right more often than wrong. We'll see how we do this year.
Scroll down to see how we voted and why.

Ron Lemon Says:
Maybe she can sing Opera but Tuesday night Stevie Scott gave a performance that was uninspired, unemotional, a poor song chice and she did not engage the audience. I think she will get the lowest vote count of the 12 girls.
Heather Cox chose a safe performance, but even with that she didn't go for it and she didn't bring it. Totally forgettable and the voting audience forgot her.
My Standout Female performance of the week is Lisa Tucker. I wanted her performance to continue. She has a unique and very engaging stage presence. I can't wait to see more of her. That makes her a standout to me.
Bucky Covington is nice guy. Sometimes nice guys finish last. He's out of his depth and going home.
Bobby Bennett was no better than what you would see in your local community dinner theatre. And honestly I've seen better. I don't know how he made the show. But he's gone now.
I had a really hard time deciding on the Male Standout performance. I am a huge fan of Taylor Hicks. I think he is one of only two guys who belong in the finals. But I was blown away by Ace Young. Ace is favored to win according to the oddsmakers and after watching his performance last night, I can't disagree. Ace was the standout of the night, and the week.
A couple of other Idol comments.
Does anyone over the age of 20 actually find Brenna Gethers' attitude attractive? The thing about attitude is you have to have the talent to back it up. Brenna doesn't. On the positive side, she doesn't have the Fran Drescher voice of Mikalah Gordon. But then Brenna doesn't have Mikalah's charm and humor either.
What is up with Paula Abdul? Was her hair bound up to tight? Is she off her meds? When did she turn into the wicked witch? She has always given Simon a hard time. In the past he has deserved it and it has been fun to watch. But now she seems to be getting as mean as Simon and it just doesn't suit sweet Paula. It's fun to watch the three judge's argue, but it would be nice to see Randy and Paula have enough courtesy to allow Simon to get his comments out before they start yelling about how wrong he is. Who is really being rude here?
Professor Dan Says:
Going Home - Stevie Scott: VERY weak performance -- her quavering vocal was horrible compared to the strong performances by the other girls.
Going Home - Brenna Gethers: Good riddance to "Miss Thang". A little humility would help, since this show isn't called "American Attitude", it's "American Idol". It would also help if this karaoke-quality singer could carry a tune in a bucket.
Standout Female - Paris Bennett: For a 16-year-old, she was amazing.
Going Home - Bobby Bennett: His "Copacabana" was truly, truly horrible. He is so out of his league here it isn't even funny.
Going Home - Bucky Covington: This guy can't sing! And as for being the resident "rocker", Chris blows him away.
Standout Male - Tie, Chris Daughtry and Ace Young: Chris had the best vocal of the night-- his "Wanted: Dead or Alive" was superb. But Ace! Not only a great vocal, but he SO has "the look"-- my wife, who hadn't paid much attention to Ace in the preview shows, was like "Oh-My-God..." Both of these guys will make, not just the top 12 overall, but the top 6.
