American Idol: Antonella And Sanjaya - The Conspiracies Begin
Report and Commentary by Ron Lemon

It never fails to happen and it never fails to amaze me when it does happen. Every year we have "shocking eliminations" and equally shocking "they didn't get the boot" votes on American Idol. And every time it happens the conspiracies begin. This year is different only in that we have one of each this week. And we have only hit the Top 12. It's going to be an interesting season.
"The producers sent her packing!"
First Antonella
Last night Antonella Barba was sent home. One of two girls to go. This means of eight girls she placed either 7th or 8th in the voting. And that is surprising. There have been a number of surveys running this week trying to predict who would be safe.
Our survey here at Reality TV Calendar said she was safe.
DialIdol had her placing 4th among the eight remaining girls. Although DialIdol tries to hedge its bets and save its reputation by saying she, and five other girls were possibly in the bottom three. I love precision.
A survey by Vizu Answers actually had Antonella as number one with 26.8% of the girl's votes.
So what happened? The chat boards and my emails are full of it today. Most of the theories revolve around some form of plan to oust her and, of course, it was all perpetrated by the American Idol producers.
Why would they do that? I would think they would be very grateful for the publicity and buzz she has generated for this season. A season that needed it. I don't think they would have dumped her and I don't think they could get away with it if they tried. If she was not voted off by America and they tried to make it appear she was, as the theories go, someone would be talking about it. It always happens. Somebody would sell the story.
No, what happened was that America got that one right and voted off a girl whose talent had not earned her a spot in the Top 12.
"It's an IT conspiracy from India!"
And now Sanjaya
This is a nice kid. I wish him every success in life and am sure he will have it. But he is not a Top 12 American Idol singer. The judges know it, the other contestants know it, and even he knows it. Just watch the facial expressions.
We had him going home. However Vizu had him as safe. DialIdol had him safe, but of course a possible bottom three. Come on guys, take a stance!
Based on talent alone I don't know of anybody who thinks he is Top 12 material.
And today the emails are all about the conspiracy. The story goes like this. There is a huge conspiracy among IT (Information Technology) professionals that is centered in India. Yup, India. The bigotry in this really bothers me.
Anyway, according to the emails I am getting, half the computers in India have been dedicated to running a program that will automatically dial in and keep Sanjaya safe. "They figured out how to make a computer automatically dial his number!" says one deluded writer.
The fact is, programs that can do that have been around for years. You can buy them off the net. They work. Last year I reviewed one version and posted the review on this site. It worked fine. It's nothing new and you can bet people were using them to vote for other contestants as well.
I have my own Sanjaya theory. It's the hair. Cut it off and all the tweenie girls will stop voting for him instantly. But in the long run it doesn't matter, he won't win. I don't think he'll last much longer.
But I do feel a bit sorry for Sundance who was eliminated before his time.
Here's a prediction - The guys are going to drop like flies and somebody is going to claim it is a feminist plot.
I love this show!
