America's Next Top Model 7: Body Issues And Air Heads
Episode 8 Recap by Jacob D.
November 9, 2006
Previously on America's Next Top Model:
Nothing new happened last week as that was a clip show. Before that, the girls learned about using their sexuality and Melrose won another challenge. Brooke, who was missing her prom and graduation to be there, was cut when her model potential seemed to plateau. Seven girls remain...who will be eliminated tonight?
Its post eliminations and Jaeda talks about how unexpected it was for Brooke to go home. Melrose and Caridee decide to pay tribute by singing an impromptu song about how much they miss Brooke. I liked that little moment. I'm surprised that Melrose was a part of it considering she said she wouldn't get worked up over any other girl going home, but I don't think she was fake or anything by doing this. You can miss someone and not be a complete blubbering wreck about it.
After the song, Melrose, Caridee, and Michelle sit around and talk about their experiences in modeling. Melrose said Brooke made a huge improvement and they also discuss some things they've been through, including trying to get in the game for 8-9 years. All except for Michelle, who feels she is the complete opposite in that she didn't spend her life wanting to be a model and doesn't know the fashion world as well as some others. In the confessional, Melrose voices a little of her frustrations over her wanting it so badly and seeing people stay who maybe don't try as hard.
Tyra Mail: "If you could bump one girl out of the competition, who would it be? - Tyra"
Of course there's some half joking, "Why are you looking at me?" comments from some of the girls, but you can tell Melrose is back there thinking the other girls would choose her. We cut right to the next day and the scene is a beach with waves crashing and all that jazz early in the day. The girls happily dash across the sand where they find volleyball pro Gabrielle Reece practicing with a friend. She will be giving the girls lessons in "action modeling" and Michelle is excited because she didn't think you could do sports and model. As Gabrielle is talking about her experiences in modeling, Jaeda perks up because she played volleyball in college and she knows this is something she can do. Nice to see the girl on an up note today. Gabrielle will teach the girls how to dive for a shot and still compose yourself as a model and sends the girls to get changed into bikinis.
Of course, you know what this means right? Body issues! Anchal isn't very happy doing anything athletic because she knows she doesn't have the body for it. That's not exactly true. The only place she's thick is in the hips so if she toned up, she'd be great. She's just the biggest girl there and that's really playing on her nerves. Back with Gabrielle, everyone is gathered before a volleyball net and Gabrielle shows the girls the form they must take, demonstrating a diving save (I don't know the terminology for that move so please fill me in). Caridee is first and she tries, but she pushes all the tension into her face and makes some weird looks which Gabrielle calls her on. She also isn't hitting the best body poses. Eugena admits to not having much experience in volleyball and has pretty much the same problem Caridee does.
Melrose is next and she almost gets it. Jaeda is next and I love that she's so confident in herself now. She goes for the shot and nails it, face and all. Amanda is next and she too almost gets it, but turns her face away at the last second. Michelle goes up and she hits an awkward pose that sends her flying face first into the sand. Anchal is next and she stalls which is not good. She also hasn't taken off her wrap yet. Anchal barely even tries and I'm disappointed. After the lessons end, Eugena makes a comment that Anchal makes herself look worse by not believing in herself. Actually, Eugena says it with less grace, but she does have a valid point.
At the house, Melrose interviews that Anchal.....
