The Apprentice: Romeo & "Fool-Lee-Et"
Episode 14 Recap by Donna Emery
May 31, 2006
|
This week on Apprentice 5, I had expected to see bloodshed. But I thought it would happen at the hockey game.
The episode began with a very tired Sean, who was sitting with Lee, in the suite. Lee didn't seem tense at all, but Sean seemed very worried about which of the Synergy Witches might walk through the door. Finally, he gave up: "I'm going to eat," he decided. "I just don't care."
But they didn't get to enjoy their snack, because Robin called the suite. Never before had the phone rung, in the evening. Sean went to answer it, and was told that Trump wanted them both in the Boardroom. Sean went from zero to sixty on the Manic Monitor. "Why would he call us?" Lee speculated that Trump might want to ask them who to fire. Sean was not so easily pacified. He fretted for the entire time that Gold Rush slithered into their hastily donned suits.
The men filed into the Boardroom, and were met by Trump. He began by saying that the Boardroom was usually not a place that you look forward to. But this time, said the Donald, things are different. He told them that he had fired both Roxanne and Allie, because they had been "disloyal" to each other. He added that this meant that Sean and Lee are the Final Two. He congratulated them, and sent them back to the suite. He told them to think about the candidates who had been fired, and to choose a team of three people to help them on a tough task. He wished them both luck, and said he would see them in the morning.
The men remained stunned for a moment, and then stood up to leave. Lee felt compelled told Trump that he was up to the task, but Trump called Lee a "frickin' politician." Both guys then quickly backed out of the Boardroom, as they congratulated each other. They probably wanted to leave quickly; before Trump changed his mind. Sean was especially animated; doing a frenzied victory dance in the elevator.
Sean commented that he was ready, and that he realized that the next days were important for him. He hoped he would be the next Apprentice.
Both of the finalists then walked into a room full of their former competitors. Sean and Lee were glad to see some of them, and pretended they were glad to see the others. I didn't even recognize a non-curly Summer, but others were easily recognizable. Sean was especially glad to see Tammy, and gave her a hug. She seemed to take that in stride, and something tells me Sean's affections are unrequited.
Lee was elated to be in the finals. He said that many people had discounted him, because of his age, but he'd known he had the ability to win. Sean toasted Lee, and called him a worthy opponent. Sean noted that he liked Lee, but he'd fight him for the job. Then they went about the task of picking their teams.
Sean predictably chose Tammy, and the picked Andrea. I guess he really admired her business ability, because he asked her advice about who else he should choose. He noted that he needed the "best possible people". And then the total opposite of that description applied for the job, as Brent sat down with Sean. Brent promised to give "110%" if Sean chose him. Sean pretended to consider Brent's vast business acumen. A slightly more appealing choice came next, when Allie did her Sincere Act. She said "you know I support you and would be great on your team." Sean did an equally non-convincing sincere dismissal.
Tammy and Andrea were scouting their third team member, and Tarek was actually impressing them by saying he had worked at McDonalds, and at a sewage plant. I think he wanted to imply that he wasn't afraid of hard work; but maybe he really was saying that working on Sean's team was about as appealing as McSewage. Andrea remarked that she and Tarek were the two most intelligent people there. And she must have convinced Sean of this, because he soon told Tarek that he liked his "swagger," and that he would be happy to welcome him to the New Synergy.
Allie knew she was defeated when she viewed that triumvirate, and decided to try to charm Lee. But "nice tie," was the best she could do. Lee had gone with a predictable first choice, in Lenny. "You know nobody's better than me, "Lenny murmured. And then set out to "help" Lee choose his other two team members.
But it went beyond a friendly chat.....
