The Bachelor: Andy's Decision - Love Or Fear Of Rejection?
Commentary by Peter Andrew Sacco Ph.D
May 15, 2007
On our latest installment of The Bachelor: An Officer And A Gentleman, Andy took his remaining harem to work in Hawaii. After Andy gave each lady the same Hawaiian monument tour and showed where he works, it was time to play in the Hawaiian sun.

As I was watching this show it brought back memories of one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, Blue Hawaii starring the great King Elvis Presley. To date, I thought Andy has juggled these women with such precision and expertise he would have made even the King proud!

As a viewer it is really interesting to try to figure out who you are pulling for to be selected. As an empathetic human you don't want to see any of these women get hurt but getting hurt is definitely inevitable on this series. When Danielle didn't get a rose, I wasn't shocked but just sad for her as she invested so much time and emotion in this that her parting gift was a ride to the airport in a white stretch limo. How she handled the let-down after getting axed by Andy was very honorable and noble. She was a real classy lady and I can only hope that she finds a wonderful man who will love her for the wonderful woman she is. Do you think the psychic had anything to do with her getting cut loose? I wondered that even before the psychic began doing her reading. I thought if all things were equal, would what this psychic have to say influence Andy? I hope not.

Is it love or fear of rejection?
Andy's best friend came to visit with him and offer him some "Dr. Phil meets The View" counseling and support. It was interesting to watch two men engage in coffee talk over relationships. Who says all men are from Mars? Well, then again, the situation Andy is in I am guessing he might be wishing for a one-way ticket to Mars!

It was interesting to see how Andy had a different kind of date with each of the ladies. Each date culminated with them being given the same note and Andy giving them the same spiel. Give me a break! For crying out loud, is this guy forced to read from a script each time he is to have an uncomfortable moment? It's like being in high school and getting your best friend to go and talk to the girls to tell them what you want. Why couldn't Andy just say, "Hey, I enjoyed our time together today, I think your hot, I'm hot and why don't we spend the night together?" Instead, they have him use some ridiculous "fantasy suite" card. Give me a break!

So, did anything actually happen between Andy and the girls? Did they do it? Is The Bachelor getting more ass than a proctologist? Is every lady aware that the other girls got the fantasy suite card as well and that they aren't the only special one? Gee, finding that out can't make you feel too special. I had the luxury of watching last night's episode with my girlfriend and each time he played the fantasy suite card she kept mumbling, "Pig". I asked her if she thought anything of the naughty nature was happening. Her response, "You have the Ph.D., what do you think?" Okay. Schwing!

I believe it was the psychic who offered up Andy the most profound logic in making a decision. How would love make a decision and how would fear make a decision? The question is, who does Andy love and who is he afraid of losing?

If I was a betting man, I think Andy is falling for Bevin. I think he is very physically attracted to her and there is a wealth of chemistry and sparks. On the other hand, he is afraid of her past. He is afraid of her failed marriage, the fact that she is a divorce' and the fact she is a "wild child". He is straight, low key and even boring and Bevin elicits and entices his wild urges and passion.

Tessa is a different story. I think he is afraid of being rejected by her. Yes, you heard me right. She has played hard to get the whole time and turned it into a challenge for Andy.

Andy is competitive and I think he likes the game. Moreover, he likes winning the game. And on top of that, he is trying to convince her and work her toward loving him. My question is: Is this a contrived type of love or is it free-flowing and natural? Only Andy would know best. If you are interested in learning what type of lover you are and the types you attract, I encourage you to read my popular selling book Why Women Want What They Can't Have! I wish Andy would have read my book before and during the show and he might understand why he is attracted to certain women and who he is best suited for. Once you know the types and why you select them, you can avoid the turkeys in the future!

So next week, we will find out what happens after Andy takes the two remaining ladies to his home town to meet the parents. If Andy is anything like his parents who I am guessing are even more conservative than he is, Bevin is going to look like a harlot. Word of advice to Bevin, be sure to hide the tats! I am guessing they wouldn't come off as too lady-like. I am guessing they are just going to love Tessa, the good wholesome girl from DC. We will wait and see as Andy offers up the stone!

They will find love!
