Cheerleader Nation: Episode 3
Four Days Until The Regionals
Recap by Teri Campbell

We meet up with the girls and it's only 4 days until regionals. We find the coaches are nervous because Tate's Creek, their biggest rival, could be a really tough team to beat.
Ashley W, the girl who thought she was not as little as the other girls, has decided that she really doesn't care anymore. Amanda, the only freshman, seems to cry A LOT. She feels like the baby on the team, and as much as she cries she has rightfully earned that title. Megan is really trying to master her stunts. Saleem is a fan, Donna not so much. Now, the coaches are starting to realize that THEY aren't on the same page. Now she is talking smack about him TO her girls on the drive home. I think they all need some space.
Ayrica is really feeling the pressure at home. Her parents are proud, almost too proud of their daughter. They believe that cheerleading is second, and homework is first. Ayrica is trying to tell her mom that she needs to prepare just in CASE Ayrica doesn't succeed in something. Her mom told her that she wouldn't hear any of it. Poor Ayrica, she is just trying to do her best which just may never be enough.
Back at Megan and Alexa's house they are talking about Megan's impending graduation. Flash over to Kaitlin's house and we see Kaitlin talking about moving to Flordia for college and mom isn't too keen on her moving so far away.
Now we are on to the last football game against Henry Clay. A quick knowledge check shows us that while the girls might be superb at cheering, the consensus of the definition of a 1st and 10 is you get 4 more chances at moving 10 yards. I guess since the season is over, we won't have to talk about this anymore.
The next morning we find that the freshman, Amanda, finally got her cell phone because mom just decided it was too hard to keep track of her daughter. Amanda uses it to talk to her boyfriend until midnight, which doesn't please her mom. Amanda is just excited for life and what High School has to bring.
Two days left and now we're really seeing them buckle down to business. We see that Princess Chelsea isn't doing what is expected so she is having a small "I need attention" fit that some of the other girls are done with. The girls aren't hitting their marks, making their stunts don't seem to care. We see them do the full routine and it just looks sloppy. You can see that Saleem just doesn't know where to go or what to do.
Great.
One day left until regionals and not only are some girls late, but some of them come in with drinks in their hands that they obviously had to go OUT to get. Then at practice they are playing around, not concentrating and acting like they will walk into competition and be *handed* the trophy. So it was time for ANOTHER talk. They circle the girls up and tell them that at this stage they aren't going to win. If they really want to they are going to have to show Saleem the money!!!
The night before regionals everyone has their doubts. Who will hit punches, tucks, jumps, stunts and just master the routine. Everyone believes that they CAN do it, but they just need to fight for it.
Will the girls bring it all together? Will they all complete their tucks and punches? Will their hair be scrunched enough? Will they do their best? It's all God and Saleem can ask for.
There is much more drama from the girls, their parents and the coaches so I'll see you here next week for more Cheerleader Nation! Join the Dunbar HS Cheer Squad and me for their competition at regionals!!
