First let's start off by acknowledging that the show has now moved to Friday nights! Thanks to my editor here at realitytvcalendar.com for giving me the heads up. Props to Ron!!
Now on to more important issues!!! We begin the show just 3 hours before the regional competition. It's the first competition of the year and you only get one shot at being the best. Some of these girls may never get this chance again.
It's Megan's senior year and she has worked on her full layout for 4 years and this is her year to stick it. However, with still some troubles in the landing, Saleem will decide if she'll do it when they actually get TO the competition.
Then there is Katie, it's her senior year and her first competition and she is the only senior that hasn't been to a competition. She has a lot weighing on her shoulders.
Saleem is also worried about Chelsea's stunt group. Not about the stunts but about the landing basket. Chelsea has fallen a lot and her leg hurts. Kaitlin's finger has been affecting her back tucks but Saleem thinks it's more mental than physical. It's Amanda's first competition for Dunbar and mom just can't imagine not being there to see it! Mom takes quite some time to make sure Amanda's hair is perfect. Ayrica is in a new stunt group but Saleem thinks she'll step it up and bring her best. Aryica's mom asks her younger daughter if she would rather go watch Ayrica cheer or go to Lannie's soccer game. She picks soccer and Mom seems STUNNED but she assures everyone they will make it to everything that day!
Back at Donna and Ryan's house, Donna let's us know that she is motivated to come out this year and watch her squad win this contest. She tries to wake up Ryan who is not quite ready to move. However, they both get ready and are soon out the door.
Amanda can't believe this is her first varsity competition. Mom Terri is so proud and lets her daughter know it's a big deal; she is impressed with her daughter and may begin to cry. I think I may see where Amanda gets this trait!
Only 2 more hours to go and all the girls are getting ready to board the bus. FLASH TO AYRICA'S HOUSE: SHE ISN'T EVEN UP YET!!!! Saleem is worried since Ayrica has been late all week and he wants to leave without her, but she really is too much a big piece of this winning puzzle. Finally she shows up and gives the excuse that she was sleeping off her 'sickness' from the previous night. Saleem is just done with the excuses. Ayrica is thinking, "If we lose, it will be my fault." Amanda is tickled by the goody bags being handed out by Saleem.
With 32 teams competing and only 1 hour left everyone fills in the gym and sizes up the competition. The girls start to warm up and practice. Dunbar watches Ryle High practice and man they are psyched! They think it's their year to come out and show everyone who they are. While we watch our own girls we see the pyramids fall, stunts failing and overall just not looking like champions. The minutes tick down and the girls have to leave the mat and go back to the gym. When walking towards the gym the girls go by the Tates Creek cheerleaders. They all wish each other good luck, but Tates Creek makes NO mistake when letting the cameras know that they are better than Dunbar.
The girls are in the stands and giggling, playing around, eating and talking on cell phones. Are they taking it seriously? Do they really want this? Every Dunbar cheerleader is glued to the performance of Ryle High. Ryle takes the mat and looks really good, but there is one fall in their routine. Now it's the time we've waited for. Tates Creek takes the mat and EXPLODES in their tumbling sequence! Donna admits that right now Tates Creek has better tumbling than Dunbar. Ayrica thinks they were a bit sloppy and could have tightened up on things. Then the unthinkable happens. A cheerleader falls. Princess Chelsea lets a small grin escape at the mishap. Now it's do or die. It is time for Dunbar to BRING IT ON (not to be cheesy or anything!) The nerves kick into gear and the girls' smiles become plastered on their face. The parent's are also very nervous and each tells how they can feel it for their daughter. Ayrica's parents are MIA. Right off the bat Chelsea's stunt group falls. Aryica says Chelsea stuck out her but and that was that. Then the girls just KICK IT UP A NOTCH. They finish strong and the crowd goes wild. So now…………it's the waiting game.
While waiting for the results, the girls go over their performance. You can hear Saleem tell Chelsea to not worry about her fall, but when Chelsea lifts her head from her lap, I am not so sure she is really too upset about it. Her take on it is, "Whatever happens, happens. I guess." Then we see poor Ayrica crying. Her parents never showed. She tells us that her mom never comes but her dad always does. Then she shows how sad she is that they went to her little sister's soccer game and couldn't make it to her competition. She begins to cry harder. She works SO hard, trying to please her parents in every way and yet, they don't make it to support AYRICA in what is important to her. I need a minute to shed a tear FOR her.
It's time for the awards ceremony.
3rd place goes to: Ryle High School
2nd Place goes to: Tates Creek High School
And your Bluegrass Regional Champion is DUNBAR HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!!
Way to go girls!!!! Everyone takes time to hug each other and realize that they really need to focus on Nationals. The girls load the bus and Donna hopes that this was the wake up call the girls need to become serious. Saleem realizes that he will need to tell the girls that with his new job that he won't be around much. He knows that this will need to happen at the next practice.
Ayrica's family tries to make up for not being there by getting her a cake and celebrating her victory. I don't know if I could be as mature as her but I really admire that she came to rest with the fact that her sister needed her parents, too. What a great role model she is.
The girls go and buy a ton of flowers and head over to Saleem's house!! While Donna thinks it's a bonding issue, she also thinks it's just kind of fun for the girls to do. They TP his house, write in shaving cream on the sidewalk and decorate his whole yard. He comes home and the girls run out to surprise him! He hopes the united front they have to decorate his house will spill over into competition.
Saleem brings the girls in and lets them know about his new job. They girls are a bit worried it seems, but from what I've seen I think they are going to be able to step up and take the responsibility.
There is much more drama from the girls, their parents and the coaches so I'll see you here next week for more Cheerleader Nation!
