Cheerleader Nation: A Team With A Dream
Episode 7 Recap by Teri Campbell
April 24, 2006
This week on Cheerleader Nation it is time for the girls to head to Nationals. There is an exhibit of routines that will be displayed at Nationals. Tates Creek is there but we find that they will be competing in a different division this year.
The girls take the floor to find that during their routine we see mistake, after mistake after mistake. It's funny how the music is almost macabre when they are *just* about to make a mistake. I suppose it makes good TV. I really almost couldn't watch it myself. I keep thinking back to all those days of fooling around instead of really concentrating on their routines. Is all that slack coming back to haunt them. Oh yeah. When did the new uniforms come in? I have not seen these before, have I?
Ayrica is very observant that her group is falling apart and instead of working together, they seem to get more frustrated with each other. Courtney is crying because she doesn't want to be the reason the team loses, but Ryan is there for the pep talk. Oh yeah. Who is Courtney??
Next, all the girls start to pack. Ryan is stoked that her dad is going to accompany them to Nationals. Donna has told these girls to start packing way earlier but you see them all racing to complete the task. Megan and Alexa are struggling over who can bring what and what belongs to whom. Amanda and her mom, Terri, start to talk over whether Amanda will get to tan, or not.
Megan has been working on her full for a long time now and still is not hitting it. Saleem works with her and she keeps trying and trying but to no avail. On her last tumble, she goes HIGH in the air, misses a rotation and SLAMS her upper back and neck into the mat! I literally screamed here as a tear came to my eye. She is fine!!! Saleem thinks it's more about her THINKING about it, than just doing it. He talks her through it; she tries again and STICKS IT!!
Now we meet Ali. She is in the car with Megan & Alexa's mom and Alexa. They stop by and pick up Courtney and head to a restaurant. Over at Chelsea's, Chelsea tells us that during Nationals time her mom and she don't get along so great. I didn't realize that there was a time when she actually got along with her mom! Her dad left when she was 10 and he is coming to Florida to watch her. Mom says that she knows Chelsea would like her there, but it would be nice to actually hear that from Chelsea.
Now this next part shouldn't be this big of deal but I find myself yelling at the TV. Chelsea says, "It's really important to me that my mom goes to Nationals because she can buy everything for me and she can just make my trip fun." Um, princess?? Do you hear yourself? What a brat.
Over at Ayrica's her mom is looking over her outfit and doesn't think Ayrica should wear it as Ayrica is too voluptuous for it. I think the pants are quite form fitting but the top is cute and together the outfit looks good. Ayrica states that she is 16 and can choose her own clothes. She is still thankful that her whole family is coming to Nationals to support her. She notes that it is very special for her. Once Ayrica's mom has her in the clothes she picked out Ayrica's mom lets her know how good she looks. What is so funny here is the contrast between Ayrica and Chelsea. Ayrica is respectful and thankful for what she has. Chelsea is just thankful for what her mom will buy her. I think I will send Chelsea's mom a card.
Ryan's boyfriend, Cory comes over to visit. Donna says she doesn't mind them having "alone" time, it's just how often he asks for it. Then we see them going upstairs? Big faux pas here Donna! You don't let your child go upstairs to have alone time with her boyfriend. Next shot is all 3 of them in the living room. Small chit-chat ensues and blah, blah, blah.
Two days to go and we're back at practice and Donna is doing her thang - yelling!
Courtney is still falling and Saleem talks to the girls. Ayrica comes back with a snotty remark but I suppose it was out of earshot range for Saleem to hear. Girls are fighting back with whatever Donna says and the tension is high!
