Real World - Road Rules Challenge: The Duel
Paula Calls Out Aneesa And Loses
Episodes 4 Recap by Jenny Lane
October 27, 2006
Previously on Real World/Road Rules - The Duel, Tina caused her own elimination when she lost her cool and punched Beth. With Tina out, the girls were safe and there was no duel for them.
Later, in the "Pass with Care" challenge, Evan and Jodi won, which made Evan safe from the guys' duel. When it came time to make the picks for the first duel participant, the Key West team members were once again targeted. Tyler was the last one chosen and therefore ended up in the duel for the second time in a row. Tyler chose the tough competitor Derrick to be his opponent. Unlike last time, Tyler did not emerge victorious and became the second Key West cast person to go home. Will tonight's episode send one of the Key West girls home?
Tonight's episode begins with Derrick, Casey, Svetlana and Paula discussing strategy. Casey says she's trying to stick with Svetlana and Paula, and they need to take out the top girls in order to stay to the end. Derrick says some of the girls might be afraid of Svetlana.
In another room, Evan and Aneesa are talking about the pros and cons of being cutthroat. They say there's no reason to stab someone else in the back. Evan says the girls are using their mouths, not their minds, and looking to screw each over to keep going. Aneesa says she's not going to kiss people's asses to stay in the game, and she doesn't trust anyone.
A clue has arrived! "Tomorrow round and round you'll go. Who will win, no one knows. Be ready at 8:30 a.m." Paula says she knows she's on the chopping block, being one of the Key West people.
The next morning, everyone arrives at the site of the challenge. It's a big indoor roller rink, the kind for racing or roller derbies. Host T.J. Lavin welcomes the cast to the "Roller Derby" challenge. He promises that today's challenge will be the most brutal so far, and to win you need to be the fastest and/or the strongest player in a ten lap race for survival.
There will be two four-man heats for the guys, and three three-girl heats for the girls. Then there will be one championship round for the girls and one for the guys. It's a girls' duel day so winning for the girls is especially important. The guys' winner gets a BMW motorcycle, which sends all the guys into a frenzy.
The long side sections (called straight-aways) are called action zones. The action zones are enclosed by a railing, and outside the railings are crash pads. You can eliminate an opponent by getting them out of the action zone, over the railing and onto the crash pad. Once you are knocked over the railing and onto the crash pad, you are eliminated. If you are knocked off of the track on the inside, you have three seconds to get back on the course or you are eliminated. You may not cling to the railing during the race.
Everyone suits up, putting on safety gear and old fashioned roller skates (no rollerblades!). The first guys' heat consists of Evan, Brad, Wes and Kenny. It's funny that they're all wearing white roller skates - I thought the white ones were for the girls! Evan takes the early lead and Brad is right behind him. Kenny is eliminated early for hanging onto the railing (it's no wonder; he can barely stand on the skates let alone race). Wes gets knocked into the center and takes more than three seconds to get back on his feet, so he is next to be out. That leaves Evan and Brad in a race to the finish. (If more than one person is left standing at the end, the winner is the first person across the finish line.) Evan is in the lead but Brad is right behind him. Brad makes a move and takes Evan to the floor right at the end, and is able to pass him and get across the finish line first.
The second guys' heat is Nehemiah, Derrick, Eric and CT. Eric falls right away and as he falls, he takes down Nehemiah on his way down. Both of them take more than three seconds to get back up, so they are both out. That leaves Derrick and CT. Derrick gets knocked down by CT and although CT briefly hits the floor, Derrick takes too long to get back up and is out. CT is the winner of the second heat.
The first girls' heat is.....
