Robin Loses To Aneesa's "Wind"
Real World - Road Rules Challenge: The Duel
Episodes 9 Recap by Jenny Lane
December 8, 2006
Previously on Real World/Road Rules - The Duel, Evan and Diem were victorious at the "Pole Dance" challenge, which meant that Evan was safe from the Duel. Wes shocked the others and volunteered to be the first participant in the Duel. He then took what some felt to be the easy route and chose Derrick as his opponent. Wes beat Derrick in a long and arduous Duel, and Derrick was sent home. The Duel zapped Wes of both energy and spirit, which we saw in an emotional post-Duel conversation with Wes and his girlfriend Johanna.
Tonight's episode begins at a nightclub where everyone is out drinking and dancing. Robin has had one or two (or six) too many drinks, and is running around the bar yelling about how drunk she is and about how much she loves everyone.
At the house, Robin (who is at this point sloppy stupid drunk) confronts Aneesa on her (Aneesa's) sexual orientation. Robin says/slurs, "Aneesa, if you're gay, lesbian, straight, black, white, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, just pick something!" Aneesa is not going to take any of Robin's drunken heckling and says/yells "Get the f*ck out of my face, you are a disgrace to women! You are an embarrassment, I am embarrassed to be a woman because of you!" They are in the kitchen and as she's saying all of this, Robin hangs onto the counter, wobbles a bit and yawns. Aneesa shakes her head and storms out of the room. As she walks out, Robin says "see you in the Duel!"
Aneesa takes the drama to another room, and talks things over with Evan and Diem. Evan tells Aneesa that "when Robin gets drunk, it's a black hole of emotion." Aneesa says she's very hurt and she's proud of everything she is and she accepts everyone for who they are.
Brad, Evan (who seems to be everywhere) and Jodi are outside. Brad says he's very offended, and you "don't throw gay cards at people, you don't throw race cards at people, so when you act ignorant, whether you're drunk or not, there's no excuse for it. You made your bed, you lie in it, I will not associate with what you did because that's far from me and I'm offended." (To be honest, Brad is rambling like he's a little drunk too.) Brad and Robin had been allies until now, and Brad says he's got to make a choice "between someone who can help me stay in the game, or to write her off because I'm offended by some of the things that she said."
Late that night, Aneesa comes up to Robin's bed (Robin is asleep under the covers) and says she wants to talk. Aneesa should know better than to try to get a coherent conversation of someone who has passed out drunk. Robin wakes up enough to mumble, "I'm sleeping, I'm sorry Aneesa, I'll talk to you tomorrow." Aneesa won't let it go and stands there rambling on about how Robin could never be sorry enough and will never know how Aneesa feels. Robin realizes that Aneesa is not going away, rolls over and uncovers her head.
Now, Robin could have decided to say something to try to smooth things over but instead she says, "Every day I'm like, who are you Aneesa?" Robin tells us that she keeps getting a "different Aneesa, different hair, different accents, it's hard to trust somebody who doesn't know who she is and where she's coming from, so I just flipped." Robin tells Aneesa that she just doesn't understand her sexuality, and Aneesa says that "it's not for you to understand." (Which is true!) Robin finally gets a clue and says "I apologize for offending you" but that's not enough for Aneesa, she keeps going with the "you need to learn from it and this can't happen again and I do not forgive you and I will not forget." This goes on for several more minutes but quite frankly, I'm bored with the never ending conversation that doesn't resolve itself, so I'm going to take the opportunity to take a typing pause. (No, I'm not insensitive, I'm just easily bored.)
The next morning, everyone meets host T.J. Lavin on the beach near a restaurant. (No clue this week?) Today's challenge is called "Dine-N-Dash." Diem and Svetlana join T.J. and choose teams for the challenge. Svetlana picks Eric, Diem picks C.T. (big surprise), Svetlana picks Jodi, Diem picks Robin, Svetlana picks Brad, and Diem picks Evan. Wes is the odd guy left, so he gets to sit out of the challenge. Svetlana picks Aneesa, which leaves Kina for Diem's team. (Luckily, Robin and Aneesa are not on the same team.)
CT says that first.....
