Real World - Road Rules Challenge: The Duel

Previously on Real World/Road Rules - The Duel, Jodi and CT won the "Around the Block" challenge, giving Jodi safety from the Duel. Aneesa was the first girl chosen to head to the Duel, and she chose Diem as her opponent. Diem overestimated her strength and underestimated the weight of a bag of coffee, and was unable to rise to the occasion. Diem was sent home, much to CT's dismay.
Tonight's episode starts at the house, with CT and Jodi talking strategy. CT says he think they are the two strongest people, and the money is theirs "for the taking." A clue arrives, and reads "Tomorrow is your next challenge, time to sink or swim, be ready by 10:30 a.m."
The next morning, everyone meets up with T.J. Lavin for the challenge which is called "Paddle Me." This will be the last challenge before the finals. The challenge starts out on a dock, and everyone will have to get on nine-foot surfboards, and paddle out and around an island, which looks like it is quite a distance away.
The group will pair up into one guy/one girl teams. One of the teammates will start inside the start line, lined up on the surfboards. The other teammate will wait on the pier. When T.J. starts the challenge, the people on the pier will jump into the water and swim to their partner. The two teammates will have to paddle together, on one surfboard, to the island. Once they get past the island, there are three more surfboards waiting. The teammates will split up and each person will have their own surfboard for the way back.
The first guy and first girl to get back to the start/finish line will win the challenge and a car audio system. The winners will also win safety from tonight's Duel and a spot in the finals. The four people who do not win the challenge automatically have to participate in the Duel (there will be two Duels tonight). The team who comes in second gets to choose the game for the Duel, so that's important as well.
T.J. has the girls stand by him, and then tells them to go pick their partners. There doesn't seem to be any jostling for position as Svetlana picks Wes, Jodi picks CT, and Aneesa picks Brad. Wes says that he and Svetlana are the strongest swimmers, so they are feeling confident. CT and Jodi are also feeling confident. Brad, on the other hand, is nervous with Annesa as his partner.
The challenge starts with Wes, Jodi and Brad on the pier and Svetlana, CT and Aneesa waiting in the water. The challenge begins and the three on the pier jump into the water. Wes gets to Svetlana first, gets on the surfboard and has Svetlana crawl on his back (can you blame him?). CT and Jodi are in second place, and Brad and Aneesa are in last. Svetlana kinds of slides off Wes and ends up lying on the surfboard instead of on Wes, which seems to make more sense. (It's a long board and there's room for both of them.) The other couples are situated the same. The first two teams are close together, but Brad and Aneesa are quite a ways behind the others. It may partly be how they're lying on the board, Brad is kind of in the middle, and Aneesa is struggling to keep her grip.
The first two teams arrive at the island. Brad and Aneesa seem to be not quite half there. Brad gives up and tells Aneesa that they should quit and save their strength for the Duel, since there's no way they can catch up to the other two. Aneesa doesn't like the sound of that, but I have to say that he does have a point. Aneesa convinces Brad to stay in the game, saying she is "not a quitter."
CT and Jodi are now in first place, but CT says that he thinks Jodi is letting him do all the work, so she will still have energy for the second half. They arrive at the second set of surfboards first, but by that time, CT is exhausted. Wes and Svetlana arrive second, and Brad and Aneesa are still in last place.
Now that everyone is on their own, CT is in first place, with Wes in second and Brad in last place. Jodi is in first for the girls, with Svetlana in second and Aneesa in last. Wes is able to whiz past CT and take first place. Jodi gets back to the start/finish line first and not only wins but beats all of the guys as well. Wes is next to finish, winning for the guys. CT and Svetlana come in second, and Brad and Aneesa come in last. The Duel will be CT vs. Brad, and Aneesa vs. Svetlana.
CT chooses the game.....
