Fresh Meat: The Game, The Drama, The Action Begins
Episode 1 Recap by Jacob D.
June 1, 2006
Previously on The RealWorld/RoadRules Challenge:
Thirty-two guys and gals from the Real World and Road Rules shows met up and were divided into two camps: Challenge Rookies and Challenge Veterans. The Veterans were sure they would run away with the game, but after many battles and much drama, the Rookies tasted victory.
Now, we have a similar setup in that veterans will be going up against rookies, but this time, the rookies have never actually been on any MTV show. Will they be at a disadvantage going into this? Only one way to find out.
We begin this season with footage of the newbies arriving at the airport in Australia, where this challenge will take place. Theo wonders who these kids are and says he doesn't go their job to try and outdo them. He gets in a funny dig, saying, "I don't go to Starbucks and try and out latte' them." I love Theo. Evan says he'll probably regret what he does, but says he's young and stupid and good at making bad decisions. Diem says she has what it takes to make it over that hurdle and Kenny, getting off to a great start, says he is the best looking guy there. Ryan is sure the veterans will approach them with disdain and Tonya says the rookies have no idea what they're getting themselves into.
Prior to this season, the rookies were put through a series of challenges to test their speed, agility, coordination, and puzzle solving skills. The rookies are grouped together on some stage with the veterans seated below and watching. Tina is sure it's "Fresh Meat vs. Alumni" which she feels could be bad since the veterans have been drinking a lot and getting older. There's a twist though. One that I did not even know about. Did they even announce there'd be a twist? Anyways, that twist is that each veteran will pick one rookie of the opposite sex to be their partner. It will then be a partner's game, everyone against everyone, from now on. The only time they've ever done partners set up was in Battle Of The Seasons way back in '02.
So here's the list of who chooses who. Also, the stats of each Fresh Meat person, based on how they did in the pre-season challenges, are posted along with their picture. This allowed each veteran to see some of what they're made of.
Danny picks Evelyn
Coral picks Evan
Darrell picks Aviv
Tonya picks Johnnie
Theo picks Chanda
Tina picks Kenny
Wes picks Casey
Johanna picks Jesse
Derrick picks Diem
Katie picks Eric
Melinda picks Ryan
Shane picks Linette
Looking at these pairings, I'm sure Coral and Evan will be the brash and cocky ones. Darrell and Aviv will be the quiet storm, Tina and Kenny the loudmouths, and Katie and Eric will be some kind of wildcard team. TJ fills us in that these teams will be competing in 15 challenges. The way to stay in the game will be to avoid going to exile, where they will compete against another team for the chance to stay in the game. Winners stay, losers go. Only 4 teams will make it to the final challenge where they will compete for the biggest cash prize in the show's history: $250,000.
The competitors are taken to the house they will be staying in for the duration of this challenge. Rooms are designated Fresh Meat and Veterans, and already, people are jumping in the pool. Eric immediately decides to strip and dance before jumping in the pool. How unexpected, except not. Tina says there is some eye candy in Australia and we get a lingering shot of Kenny, fresh from the pool and in his underwear. I may not like him, but he does look good.
Some of the veterans get together to compare teammates and Coral is sure she has the biggest guy. To her, the fact that Evan outran a black guy (Johnnie) is significant. Way to go Coral. Theo wonders if they know how dirty the game can get and says they'll find out when they're sent home. The Austin couples, Wes and Johanna plus Melinda and Danny, are kissing on each other and decide to take their PDAs into a bedroom. Wes takes it upon himself to kick some of the Fresh Meat out of a room, a room that was designated for the new guys I might add, so the couples could have some alone time. Nice way of getting in everyone's good graces Wes. You guys already have a big target on your backs, why make it bigger by ostracizing yourselves?
Jesse is a bit unhappy with being.....
