Real World - Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat
If You Ignore It, It Won't Go Away

Episode 10 Recap by Jacob D.
August 1, 2006

Previously on the Real World/Road Rules Challenge- Fresh Meat:
Katie/Eric and Tina/Kenny were put into exile. Wes took another stab at strategy by helping out Katie (giving her information about exile) so Katie will help him in the future. Tina and Kenny learned about this and vowed to get revenge on Wes. At the 2 part challenge, the teams got together in 2 groups of 4 teams to haul 850 lbs. Coral sustained a dislocated kneecap and Evan's hernia got worse. In the second leg of the challenge, Darrell and Aviv won for the first time. Despite prior knowledge of the exile, Katie and Eric still lost to Tina and Kenny, being eliminated from the competition. Does this mean Wes and Casey will go back to repeated exiles? How will Coral and Evan's injuries affect them? Find out now.

Evan returns to the house from the hospital. He says there's a 99% chance he will make the pain worse (by staying), but if he ignores it, it won't happen. That's not the best mindset to be in with chances like that. He is still hiding the fact that he has a hernia from everyone and is downplaying Coral's injury as well. Speaking of Coral, she returns from the hospital and everyone worries, seeing as how she is limping and using crutches. With everyone asking how she's doing, Coral shrugs it off. A text message arrives about the next challenge and Coral and Evan's future doesn't look bright.

The next day at the house, Diem says that she, Aviv, and Linette have become great friends. They talk about the difficulties of the competition and how sending anyone to exile will make them mad at you. They don't think it's fair that the game is played on a personal level and not a strategic level. I think it's near impossible to separate yourself 100% from a game on a personal level. In the beginning, you worry about being the first person gone. In the middle, you worry about going home because you're doing poorly, and in the end you worry because you've gotten so far. Never mind the drama that happens along the way based on human interaction. The ONLY time I have ever seen a team play on this game (or any reality show) without getting personal is in the first Real World/Road Rules challenge Battle Of The Sexes. That was back when the game was still on a points system and the guys simply kicked off the one with the lowest total of points each time no matter who it was. Anyways, Evan knows that he and Coral are in danger.

At the challenge site, before anything even happens, TJ delivers some unfortunate news to Coral and Evan. They will not be allowed to continue on in the competition due to the seriousness of their injuries, as per doctor's orders. Coral is mad because she has never been kicked off a show before. She has always made it to the final challenge up until now. Coral and Evan argue with executive producer Justin Booth about staying and Evan even says his doctor said it was ok! A huge lie, considering last episode he said the exact opposite. Justin will not budge and so they must go. On a personal note, Tina is sad to see Coral go, but as far as the game is concerned, she's more than happy because it means a door has been opened for the others.

With that done, TJ informs everyone that the game will carry on as planned. Same number of challenges, same number of exiles, which means that now there will only be a final 3 as opposed to a final 4. The winner of the final challenge will still get $250K, but now the 2nd and 3rd place teams will get money in the form of $30K and $20K respectively. Business aside, it's time for the "Batten Down The Hatches" challenge. Each team will start in a lifeboat suspended above water and each member will go down a ladder on opposite sides. Once their feet touch the bottom rung, they will swing over, switch ladders with their partner, and climb back up to the boat. Fastest team wins, if you fall in the water, you're out. Darrell and Aviv decide the play order and the challenge begins.

Wes and Casey are first and they have.....
