Real World - Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat
It's Not About Friends, It's About Winning

Episode 11 Recap by Jacob D.
August 8, 2006

Previously on Real World/Road Rules Challenge- Fresh Meat:
Coral and Evan, perhaps the strongest team in the game, were ejected from the game due to serious injuries sustained previously. At the challenge, Wes and Tina were both aware of their "easy target" status and formed an uncertain pact to oust one of the stronger teams. Derrick and Diem persevered and finally won a challenge, but were then left with the unenviable task of picking the first exiled team. They were soon at the horns of a dilemma: go with what has always been done (picking weaker teams Wes/Casey or Tina/Kenny) or make a strategic move and target a different, stronger team? Derrick chose the latter and targeted Shane/Linette which upset Diem because she is friends with Linette. When Shane and Linette learned they were going to exile, Linette was furious and felt betrayed by Diem and Diem felt upset about the whole decision. At the vote, Wes went back on his word to vote with Tina and Kenny and got he and Casey sent to exile for the 5th time. Will Shane and Linette win the pardon in the next challenge? Will Wes and Casey keep their winning exile streak intact? Find out now.

At the house, Linette and Aviv confront Diem about her decision to put Linette into exile. Diem apologizes and Linette assumes that was all Derrick's idea and he forced her to go along. It was Derrick's idea, but for the decision to be made, Diem had to agree to it. Aviv thinks Diem should've spoken up. She did. She had her reservations and told Derrick. Don't sit there and act like Derrick is a monster and Diem is some kind of abuse victim. They're not Wes and Casey. I don't know. To me, Linette and Aviv's tactic is more strong arm, like to make Diem feel worse than she does than to try and come to an understanding. They can't look at the strategic side to things (and the decision was strictly strategic). Linette should focus more on winning than whipping Diem. Linette and Aviv beg Diem to not let Derrick put them first in the next challenge. Fat chance on that. Derrick does not want to afford them an opportunity to win and feels that for the first time, he's being smart and strategic and he is.

A text message arrives about the next challenge. Casey says she and Wes are going to focus on winning the challenge and if they do, they'll send Darrell and Aviv to exile. She also taunts them in an interview and says they (she and whoever) have the game all figured out. Don't get too into yourself Casey. Shane wants to Linette to just prove how tough she is. Theo and Linette cuddle and discuss the competition with Theo offering encouragement.

At the challenge site, TJ welcomes everyone to the "Jump Down Under" challenge. The teams will first jump off a platform and into water from a height equal to a 4 story building and this immediately has Casey freaked out. Once in the water, the teams will swim 20 feet to a Rave Superlaunch (one of those giant inflatable platform things) where they must climb up and retrieve two flags. With flags in hand, they must jump back in the water and swim another 30 feet to two buoys and connect their flags to them. Fastest team wins.

Now Derrick and Diem must decide the play order. In an interview, Aviv says she hopes they don't put Shane and Linette first. Aviv says that she and Linette are giving her a second chance to stand up for herself and make up for what she did and not to blow it. Wow, for two girls who told Diem not to let Derrick make her decisions for her, you're "giving her a chance" to correct her "mistake?" Honey, I don't like your attitude. Diem feels Linette and Aviv's ganging up on her was more about strategy and not mending fences and Diem vows to really play the game and not half-heartedly. Shane and Linette will be going first and of course, Linette isn't happy. Oh and it wasn't Derrick who made her decisions for her. Diem's a big girl.

Before their turn, Linette says she's taking her anger and using it as energy. There you go, Linette. Shane and Linette jump down and swim over to the superlaunch, but are having trouble climbing it with Shane falling in the water. Derrick, not wanting to see them win, is happy they are struggling. Shane realizes that squirming around a lot on the superlaunch only causes it to shift and throw you off so you have to go slowly. They manage to finish the challenge, but I doubt they'll be getting the pardon.

Wes and Casey's turn is looming and Casey is totally nervous. Wes, in a rather mature approach in an interview, points out their strengths and wants them to take advantage of the situation. He hates that Casey is not getting her head into the game and is acting like a little girl. On the platform, Wes tries to encourage Casey to go, but she's having none of it and gives up, not caring if she's called a "scaredy cat" or whatever. Wes and Casey are disqualified. Casey tries to rationalize her action by saying that it's crazy to just wake up and jump 4 stories. This isn't an everyday thing, it's a once in a lifetime thing that could get you $250,000.

Theo and Chanda.....
