Episode 12 Recap by Jacob D.
August 15, 2006
Previously on Real World/Road Rules Challenge - Fresh Meat:
Feeling betrayed, Linette and Aviv confront Diem on her decision to put Linette into exile. At the challenge, Diem further dooms Shane and Linette by putting them first. The challenge involved jumping from a height equal to 4 stories into water and most were able to get through it. Casey, on the other hand, could not get over her fears and refused to go through with it. Shane and Linette had high hopes about beating Wes and Casey in exile, but ended up losing and were eliminated. With Derrick and Diem on a slight winning streak, will they control the game? Or will a new team rise up to shake things around? Find out now.
At the Cheeky Monkey bar, Derrick and Diem flirt. In an interview, Diem says she's having a hard time just focusing on the game and not noticing how cute Derrick is. Derrick compliments Diem and Diem says it helps her to escape the fact that she has ovarian cancer. She doesn't think anyone would want to pursue a relationship with someone who has it because it's not fun going through all the treatments. At the house, Derrick and Diem share some more alone time and in an interview, Derrick says he feels like he's becoming a better person around her.
Over in another room, Tina complains that she is sick and Kenny jokes that they're not going to hold the challenges for her. Tina laughs and says that Kenny is one of the sweetest guys there underneath it all. She likes how he takes care of her inside and outside of the challenges. A clue arrives about the next mission and Theo is nervous because things are getting down to the wire. He hopes his alliance with Darrell and Derrick holds up.
The next day, TJ welcomes everyone to the "Deep Blue" challenge. They will all travel on a boat out 4 nautical miles from the coast. Then, each team will dive 30 feet without scuba gear (known as "free diving") and grab their flag. Once they grab their flag, they will hold their breaths for as long as they can. Once they feel they can't go anymore, they will swim back up and once they emerge, their time will stop. The team who spends the longest time submerged wins. Derrick and Diem decide the play order and the challenge begins.
Oddly enough, as the boat takes all the teams out to sea, Wes encourages Casey to just give up. In an interviews, he is confused because this is the first challenge that doesn't have Casey freaked out and yet it's the most dangerous one. The boat gets to its destination and Tina and Kenny prepare to dive. They dive down, but the water pressure around them is causing them so much pain that they immediately go back up after getting their flag.
Darrell and Aviv go down an get their flag, but it doesn't take them long to go back up. Darrell is upset with himself for bailing out on Aviv. Theo and Chanda go down and after getting their flag, they slowly work their way back up. Wes comments that the further down you go in water, the more your lungs are compacted and says Theo and Chanda are smart for conserving oxygen for their body by floating up.
Wes and Casey are next and even before Wes grabs the flag, Casey is heading back up. Casey wishes she could've stayed calmer, but is glad that she didn't disqualify herself or Wes. Derrick grabs the flag and he and Diem make their way back up. Wes, who has been trying to time everyone on his watch, says that the times are very close. Theo feels it is important for he and Chanda to win the challenge, but also feels safe with his alliance. Still on the boat, TJ reads off how everyone did.
1. Derrick and Diem- 0:55
2. Theo and Chanda- 0:54
3. Darrell and Aviv- 0:27
4. Wes and Casey- 0:23
5. Tina and Kenny- 0:13
Derrick and Diem win for the third time in a row and they are obviously glad. Now that they have to make the decision of who goes into exile again, the tables are turned. This time Diem is spearheading the conversation and is pushing to get Theo and Chanda exiled. Derrick isn't sure about this because Theo is his friend. They talk about it and go back and forth and even run out of time to deliberate. They go back down to the deck of the boat to deliver their decision. Derrick can't face them so he turns his back and sits down as Diem says they selected Theo and Chanda for exile. Theo is shocked and Chanda says it was a smart move. The other teams are sent off to vote for the second exiled team.
Wes knows that this is the best opportunity he can get to vote out Darrell and Aviv. Starting the vote, Tina and Kenny for Darrell and Aviv. Darrell and Aviv return the favor and Wes and Casey seal Darrell/Aviv's fate. With everyone gathered around, TJ announces the two teams that will be going into exile. Diem understands that this is hard for Derrick because he and Darrell are friends. In the cars, Tina and Derrick discuss the strategy, saying they'd have a better chance of winning if Theo/Chanda or Darrell/Aviv weren't in the finals. Tina believes that she and Wes/Casey and Derrick/Diem, the supposed "Weaker Teams," are running the game now. Back at the house, Theo is nervous about his status in the game and Wes is glad that this opening has finally been made after he's been working for it since the beginning.
Back at the Cheeky Monkey, Derrick and Diem flirt some more.
Next week on Fresh Meat:
Derrick is regretting the move to put Theo and Chanda into exile and Theo and Darrell plan to get him back. The next challenge involves an obstacle course and Darrell is determined to stay in the game. See ya there.
