"Never say die" was the motto this week on the Real World/Road Rules Challenge Fresh Meat. Katie and Eric were made privy of knowledge about the exile courtesy of Wes. Tina and Kenny, angered about Wes secretly helping Katie and Big Easy, vowed to win and go after Wes.
The challenge was a particularly grueling one, with two groups of 4 teams pulling a weight of 850 lbs. down a 100 meter stretch of mud. The teams in the group that won would then go to a second heat, which involved each pair pulling 350 lbs. down a similar stretch of mud and Darrell and Aviv tasting victory for the first time.
Katie/Eric and Tina/Kenny faced off in exile and though both teams were able to complete both puzzles, Tina and Kenny won, leaving Wes questioning his future in the game.
Meanwhile, Evan's ongoing hernia and a serious injury sustained by Coral in the challenge left their futures in serious doubt, though both are determined to continue on. Will Coral and Evan be forced to throw in the towel? What will happen if they do leave the game? The story continues next week.
Linette & Shane
Current Ranking: 1 - Previous Ranking: 2
Shane and Linette are pretty much golden at this point. They continue to be one of the best performing teams and yet, they don't even have a small target on their backs. Wes and Katie weren't even remotely thinking of them in their plans to shake up the game, nor have I seen anyone else going after them since that week one scare and that works out great for Shane and Linette. It's very rare in these reality shows to get that position in the game where you are one of the best performing teams, but still flying under everyone's radar and right now, Shane and Linette have it. Bravo!
Aviv & Darrell
Current Ranking: 2 - Previous Ranking: 4
Darrell and Aviv, working in the shadows of the bigger personalities, finally persevered and tasted victory! They are safe from being the first team chosen for exile after the next challenge and I honestly don't see them being the second team in exile from the vote. If they can hold strong, they could inch their way to the finals!
Chanda & Theo
Current Ranking: 3 - Previous Ranking: 3
Theo and Chanda picked a strong group and were able to win the first leg of this week's two part challenge. They fought tooth and nail to win the second leg and almost did. They are a tough team and I would be surprised if they AREN'T in the final 4.
Diem & Derrick
Current Ranking: 4 - Previous Ranking: 5
I saw a glimmer of the old Derrick in this week's challenge. Watching him ferociously lead the charge for his team has helped me to keep my faith in him and I just know that were he not in Shane and Linette's group, he would've been the pit bull that we know him as in the second heat. It helps that Diem is right there along side him, fighting to keep pace. If they can bring this fiery energy to every challenge, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the final four.
Tina & Kenny
Current Ranking: 5 - Previous Ranking: 7
Ironically enough, Tina and Kenny probably needed this exile. Honestly, they performed amazingly, delivering a near flawless run and handily beating Katie and Eric. Seeing how well they performed in exile, Tina and Kenny are pumped with new energy and can't wait to get back in the game. I think they may be back in it. Even if they go into exile again somewhere down the line, knowing then what they know now, they could be a serious threat to just about anyone and they're a much stronger team than Wes and Casey. As far as collective performances throughout the challenge, they are still hovering around the bottom of the totem pole, but who knows what they're capable of now? The energy may be contagious because now I want to see what they can do!
Casey & Wes
Current Ranking: 6 - Previous Ranking: 6
I don't care what you want to call it, Wes, what you keep doing is "giving up" plain and simple. Did you notice that he just dropped his harness and walked off the course without telling Casey who was still working to pull the sled? And Wes complains about Casey being worthless! It's back to winning exiles for them as the only way of staying in the game.
Coral & Evan
Current Ranking: 7 - Previous Ranking: 1
Coral and Evan take a nosedive in the rankings. Evan's hernia just gets worse and worse and has reached the point where there's internal bleeding. INTERNAL BLEEDING people! The doctor has given him the red light as far as continuing in the competition, but Evan wants to press on. Coral, on the other hand, has dislocated a kneecap, but she too is determined to stay in the competition. I know I've said it before about other teams, but these two REALLY need a miracle. Next week, TJ has "unfortunate news" to deliver and I hope for Coral and Evan's physical well-being that this news is their ejection from the game. If they somehow do stay in the competition, how are they going to cope with the challenges and a shrinking pool of targets for exile?
Katie & Eric
Eliminated: Episode 9
Once the Austin cast and Tonya were taken care of, this pair's demise was inevitable. Physically, they never could stack up to any other team in the challenges, finishing low in the rankings every time. Prior knowledge about the exile was no advantage as Tina and Kenny still beat them easily. Katie and Eric are gone.
Tonya & Johnnie
Eliminated: Episode 7
Tonya and Johnnie didn't deserve to go out so soon, but their elimination was inevitable. Tonya is simply not a very popular person among Real World/Road Rules alumnus. What surprised me was that she was the one fighting tooth and nail and Johnnie was the one whining about the work load. You'd think it'd be the other way around, but nope. They are eliminated and I don't know why Tonya keeps putting herself through this.
Johanna & Jesse
Elminated: Episode 5
Johanna and Jesse actually had a good run in this week's challenge, but it wasn't enough to save them from exile. A blunder on Wes and Casey's part (forgetting a flag) gave Johanna and Jesse the lead, but an even bigger blunder on their part (forgetting BOTH flags) squashed their chance of returning to the game. They are eliminated.
Melinda & Ryan
Eliminated Episode 3
Melinda had a defeatist attitude through the whole episode. In the beginning of this week's episode, she was heard calling Danny and admitting she didn't have much interest in being here without him. Since they didn't win the next challenge, they went into exile and even though they solved a puzzle and dropped their bags, it seemed like they wouldn't win. From the start, Melinda was struggling just to keep up. Forgetting to take the first flag only sealed their fate.
Ev & Danny
Eliminated: Episode 1
Everyone, including the Fresh Meat, knew that the Austin castmates would be immediately targeted and Danny's ouster was the veterans' plan in action. They were blindsided after Tonya revealed to the others that Wes tried to orchestrate a plan to vote out Shane & Linette. When the votes came out, despite an opportunity to switch things up, Danny & Ev were voted into exile and lost against Wes & Casey. I'm not sad to see Ev go because she took on a very superior and offputting attitude from the start, but I'm sad to see Danny go in such a manner.
