Grease: You're The One I Want: The Judges Pick Laura And Max
Episode 10 Recap by Jenny Lane
March 19, 2007
Previously on "Grease: You're the One I Want," Austin was saved from elimination by the judges and Chad was sent home. All six remaining Dannys and Sandys sang last week, and tonight two will be sent home. The final four will then give their last performances, and next week the winners will be revealed!
Tonight's show opens with, you guessed it, a group number of "Rock 'n Roll is Here to Stay." Hosts Billy Bush and Denise Van Outen welcome us to the live (not for us on the west coast) finals. Denise introduces us to the final six: Austin, Derek, Max, Allie, Ashley and Laura.
After tonight's final performances, America's votes will completely determine the winners. Despite the fact that their power has been taken away, the judges still need to be introduced. They are David Ian, Kathleen Marshall, and Jim Jacobs.
Next, the six Dannys and Sandys tell us how much they want to win. Of course they all want this, and they all pretty much say the same thing…except for Austin, who says "If there's justice, I will be in the finals."
Is Laura the next Sandy?
It's time to find out which two Sandys are in the finals, and which one is going home. Billy tells Laura that she's safe and in the finals. That leaves Allie and Ashley. Billy says "Ashley, this is probably the most stressful moment of your life and it's probably not going to get any easier because you're through to tonight's finals, congratulations!" Ashley races offstage to get ready for her performance, and that leaves poor Allie left alone. Billy shows he's great at ad lib when he says "Allie come on down, you're out of the competition." She puts on a brave face, smiles and doesn't shed a tear.
Denise walks Allie offstage and it's time to find out the fate of the Dannys. Billy tells Austin that he's safe, and Austin leaves the stage. It's down to Derek and Max. Billy says "Derek, you have come so far and truly believe that you should be Danny, but does America agree? Derek, they do…not agree, I'm sorry you are out of the competition, which means that Max you are through to the finals."
Max runs offstage and Derek joins Billy to say goodbye. Billy reminds Derek that he's never been in the bottom two and yet he didn't make it to the finals (nice). Derek says he's "a little shocked but had fun."
Kathleen says "I adore you, you're so talented and handsome, I'm so sad to see you go but the only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that we will work together many times on many shows." I guess we don't need to feel sorry for Derek! (She didn't say that to Allie.)
The final two Sandys, Laura and Ashley, are now going to perform "Hopelessly Devoted to You." Laura starts, and then they sing it like they did in the elimination rounds, line by line. They both sound good, but if I had to pick a favorite I think I'd pick Laura. There's something about the vibrato in Ashley's voice that I don't like (it's fast, and it also makes her whole head bob up and down), and she also seems to overdo her facial expressions a little.
Laura reminds us that she had been playing the role of Sandy back in Minnesota but left that to join the competition, and she also was supposed to get married next weekend, but postponed her wedding as well. Way to play up the small-town vote, the experience vote, and the devoted vote all in one sentence! Laura's fiancée has sent her a message of support and shows us all the wedding planning he's been doing while she's been away.
Ashley talks about her dreams.....
