Grease: You're The One I Want: It's Laura And Max On Broadway
By Jenny Lane
March 25, 2007

Last week on "Grease: You're the One I Want," we lost Allie and Derek. That left only two Sandys and two Dannys to fight to the finish. Laura, Ashley, Austin and Max sang their hearts out in hopes of convincing the audience to pick up their phones and vote.

This week, the winning Danny and Sandy will be revealed based on last week's audience votes. The judges have no say over the winners, and will have to live with whatever choice America makes. (They did voice their preference for Max and Laura last week.)

The final episode was packed full of group numbers and not-so poignant looks back on the show. No surprises there, that's what we've come to expect from results shows. All of the previously eliminated Dannys and Sandys came back to perform, and we even got a quick look at the Broadway cast of the show.

I'm always happy to see a new idea for a show, and this was a new idea. I'm not sure if I thought it was a complete success or not, but regardless, it was fun to watch. Despite the fact that I predicted both winners incorrectly, I would go see the Broadway production if it wasn't on the complete opposite side of the country.

The Sandy's
Laura is Sandy on Broadway
America loved Laura from the beginning. She is the all-American girl from the Midwest with the loving fiancée back home. She also has a great voice and is gorgeous. I think America liked the fact that she doesn't look like the typical Sandy. She has some experience with community theater productions, and the audience liked that as well. It will be interesting to see how she holds up - she'll either thrive or crumble under the pressure. I've also got my money on her wedding getting called off indefinitely.

Ashley S.
Finished Second

I should have gone with my gut feeling last week, rather than becoming an Ashley fan at the last second. She looked and acted like Sandy, and was easier to visualize in the part. Maybe that was her downfall - maybe the viewers wanted someone less traditional in the role. She also presented herself as a little less innocent than how we see Sandy in the beginning of the story. Even the judges commented on the fact that she acted more like Sandy at the end.

The Danny's
Max
Max is Danny on Broadway

Last week I said that Max is funny, charming, engaging, and lovable, but is not Danny. I still feel that way. Even the judges compared him to Ben Stiller, and not in a completely good way. Through the whole show, the audience and the judges rooted for the underdog, and Max won everyone over as the weeks went on. I think he'll do well, but I'm still not convinced that he was the best choice. He'll need to lift some weights before he's believable as the leader of the T-Birds.

Austin
Finished Second

Ah, poor Austin. I feel for the guy. So handsome, such a great voice, but not quite the perfect Danny. I wanted him to win but probably not for the right reasons. I thought he had the most talent, the best voice, the most experience, and deserved to win. I never wanted him to win because I thought he was the perfect Danny, and that was probably his downfall. Had this been for a different show, Austin may have won. Unfortunately, nobody bought into him as Danny, and I guess I can't argue with that.
