Brendan Moore The Gauntlet 2: Episode 3
These Girls Don't Play Nice

Recap By Brendan Moore
December 21, 2005
This week the challenge gets a little more interesting, the gauntlet almost becomes a huge flop and we get the verbal lashing of the year. I was happy to see a challenge that was at least a little more interesting than the coconuts last episode. This one really took teamwork and allowed for single players to hurt their entire team's chance of winning; this is also a very nice way to root out weak links. I also thought it was funny seeing them kick and head butt the giant ball. It sort of reminded me of when I used to play crab soccer in elementary school. Of course, the best part of the episode though was Cameran's announcement in the gauntlet and the reaction from the veterans. If I had been then I would have been shocked to see it firsthand, but instead I sat on my couch and laughed hysterically. This episode really proved that you never know what to expect on these challenges.

We start things off this episode at the house. It's late and apparently some people have been drinking and want to have some fun boxing each other. We see David in a thong swinging at Alton and the two are laughing as they slip and slide around while trying to fight. Kina is shown getting ready and Ruthie is pumped and ready to go. They slip and slide as well but Ruthie gets off way more punches. Kina swings high and falls backwards. After the fight is over they hug and call it a night.

But not before the Sidekicks chime. Syrus and Cara read the messages aloud to their teams and then most of the cast heads to sleep. We see Kina and Randy talking about the game. She is very worried about having to leave and makes a very childlike comment about being a "very sad girl" if she was sent home. Randy tells her that she needs to break people mentally first since she may not be the strongest physically.

Morning has arrived and the teams are arriving at Mount Irvine Golf Club. TJ Lavin is there and welcomes them to their second challenge - Team Builders. The challenge is a three part relay that the entire team must complete in sections. He reminds the teams that it is a female gauntlet day and that means that either Kina or Ruthie will be headed into the gauntlet tonight with a teammate. The winning team gets ten thousand dollars for their bank account and the winning captain gets a thousand dollar gift card for Best Buy.

Before the mission starts, Timmy feels the need to remind us that the veteran guys still don't really like Derrick that much and are worried about him as captain. He tells us "the jury is still out on Derrick. We are worried about his mental state since he seems to have a lot of psycho popcorn kernels up in his head." Maybe Derrick's not the only one whose mental state should be questioned.

The challenge starts with the whistle blow. The teams race to the first task - Team Bridge. To complete this task they must use the boards, rope and tires to transport all their team members without touching ground. If anybody does touch the ground, the entire task must be restarted. The rookies quickly formulate a plan and start moving ahead. They laying the tires flat on the ground and lay the boards across them. The last two people pull the board up and pass it to the front and the group moves forward.

The veterans see the rookies pulling ahead and do the same thing as them. They barely get started when Timmy somehow touches the ground and gets the team disqualified. They head to start over and Ace comes up with a new idea for how to get them across. They tie the rope to two tires, throw the rope over their shoulders and walk inside the tires. They start to move quickly across the field.

The rookies are now falling behind when Alton touches the ground and gets his team disqualified. They have to start over and decide to copy the veterans. Each team is now walking across in the tires and many of the guys are carrying girls and boards on their backs. The veterans finish the task and move on to the second task. Meanwhile, Alton struggles with carrying Danny on his back. It looks as if his legs are going to give out. Landon rushed out on two tires and takes Danny onto his back. The three guys continue on towards the finish line.

The veterans are hard at work.....
