Brendan Moore The Gauntlet 2: Episode 5
Can You Say Drama Magnet?

Recap By Brendan Moore
January 6, 2006
The drama returns in a big way this week and once again Jodi is right in the middle of it all. Tears are shed and an outburst on a bus causes quite a stir. During the challenge, many of the team members feel that the mission has a very sexual nature. And when it's time for the second ladies gauntlet, another player decides to seal their own fate and throw in the towel. I can only hope that this is the last of these one-sided gauntlets and that the ones from now on will be more action packed like they were intended.

The show starts out this time with both teams loaded up on a bus and them exiting to go out to a club. The partying is in full swing when Jodi spots something she just doesn't want to see anymore. She notices Robin and Mark flirting and smooching once again. She's obviously bothered by this and explains to us that prior to this challenge she and Mark had been dating for several weeks. She then continues by saying that she's not even sure how it ended, but that it just did when they got here and Mark became a totally different person.

Susie notices that Jodi is upset and says that it has to be hard to watch. She comments that Robin and Mark have great chemistry. Jodi is now breaking down and she's in the bathroom bawling out loud to Susie. The door is closed but we hear them talking and Susie reassures Jodi that Mark is not worth all the tears. Susie comments to us that she hates seeing such a nice girl like Jodi getting hurt especially by a "5000 year old guy like Mark."

Meanwhile, right out the club we see Robin being pulled aside by Beth who looks totally wide-eyed. Beth starts to spew out all sorts of things about Jodi and tells Robin that she was in the bathroom minding her own business when she heard it all. She tells Robin that she heard Jodi say that she was the one dating Mark and that they had sex. Robin is not surprised and tells Beth that she already knew that.

Robin seems to calm down until Beth adds that Jodi was told by Mark that he loved her. Robin flicks Beth off and doesn't want to believe her. She's extremely upset that Mark would tell Jodi that. Beth comments that she doesn't like gossiping but had to tell Robin because she feels like she owes it to her to be honest. Jodi is elsewhere and she is still crying. She pauses and says to the camera that Mark can go screw himself.

The party is over for the night and the group is heading home. It seems that about half the people on the bus are drunk. At least it looks that way to me based on how many noses are bright red and the glazed look they have. Right up front and definitely in a drunken state, Robin and Mark are fighting. She questioning him as to how he could have told Jodi he loved her. He keeps telling Robin to get over it and even calls her dude once. He's pissed off that Robin won't let it go and says it's the past and she needs to deal with it. He jumps up as the fight continues and punches bag storage overhead and the screams that he needs to get off the bus before he punches a hole in the bus.

Back at the house, the teams are settling in for the night. We see Kina and Ruthie out on one of the balconies talking about the gauntlets and how nervous it makes them. Ruthie comments on how strong Kina is and she returns the compliment. Both seem ready for anything the gauntlet will throw at them. Everybody heads to bed and prepares for the challenge the next day.

It's now the day of the challenge and the teams are gathering near Canoe Bay. TJ welcomes them to their fourth challenge and tells them it is called "Sponge Worthy." The teams laugh to themselves as he explains that the object of the challenge is to transfer water from the ocean to containers on the beach. The catch is that they are going to use sponges to soak up the water and will not be to touch the sponges with their hands.

There are three stations in this challenge.....
