Brendan Moore The Gauntlet 2: Episode 7
The Dark Age Begins

Recap By Brendan Moore
January 20, 2006
Do you feel a chill in the air? Well you will by the end of this recap. This week was by far the best episode yet. It had scheming, it had plotting and most of all it was unpredictable. It's what we all remember from the past season that made us love them and stay addicted from week to week. I hope that this is a sign of good episodes to come. So stay tuned!

This time around the episode starts at the hacienda. People are sitting around and Beth comments that her legacy precedes her. David is sitting talking with her and seems agreeable as she talks. But then they show a confessional clip of him telling us that he is only staying close to her to watch her. He knows she will pull something and wants to be nearby when she does. Beth is disappointed that Tonya did not come to this challenge because she had payback planned for her.

The constantly plugged "T-Mobile Sidekick" makes a noise announcing the arrival of a message. Alton and Katie read off the challenge details to their respective teams. It mentions something about pulling their weight. The teams start wondering about the challenge. Julie hopes that it involves running; Aneesa and Beth seem to agree.

Montana watches the conversations and comments that she has been on challenges with Beth before. She comments that they had problems in the past and that they really never got along well. Montana then adds that Beth is exactly the same and really hasn't grown at all except in size.

The next day the teams are gathering around a race track for their next challenge. The challenge is called Rickshaw Races and it involves a relay style race with the rickshaws. Three guys and three girls from each team will pull the other six members in the rickshaws around the track.

Since the veterans have fourteen members, TJ explains that a guy and a girl will have to sit out of the challenge. He then continues by saying that they should choose wisely since the two people that sit out will be exempt from the gauntlet this week if the team loses. The team thinks that they should sit out their heaviest players. The obvious choices are Syrus and Beth and things seem set.

But Montana is not happy. She thinks that Beth is a good runner and that she should not get the exemption. I noticed that Montana didn't say she shouldn't sit out, she specifically said that Beth should not get the "exemption." I cannot believe that anybody would listen to Montana, but she creates such a mess that Ruthie gets involved.

Beth and Montana argue back and forth. Beth claims that Montana is just trying to manipulate the situation to her advance. Ruthie replies that Beth may be doing the same thing. She is very upset at both of them and says that she won't forget the drama they caused today. Robin notices how Ruthie handles herself and comments that she is a great team player.

The final decision.....
