The Gauntlet II: Preview Special
Meltdowns, Hook-Ups & Fights: It's Back
Recap By Cari C.
December 6, 2005
Can you believe it is time for another challenge? I swear they turn these things out so quickly. They have another one that is either almost finished or just finished up. I guess these things are cheap to make or else MTV wouldn't keep paying for them. This time around they are bringing us The Gauntlet II. The first Gauntlet was probably my favorite challenge of all time. I thought it was cool how they kept putting Sarah in week after week and she kept coming back. She is still one of my favorite contestants. Ever since then these challenges have gone downhill so here's hoping they can pull this whole thing out of the fire before they burn even the die hard challenge fans such as myself.
This time around the challenge is set in beautiful Trinidad and Tobago. The contestants are flown down and then herded onto a bus for a ride that they think will take them to their luxury digs in some tropical location. Instead, they are taken down some dirt road to a lake. They are told to get out and go down on the platform and wait. They are greeted on the platform by some guy named TJ Lavin. Apparently this guy is some BMX bike jumper. I guess Johnny Mosely wasn't available. At least this guy is better than Dave Mirra so it might not be so bad. TJ informs the group that the reason they have been brought here is because this is the spot for their first challenge but before they can begin they have to be separated into their respective teams.
I thought that they knew ahead of time what team they were going to be on but I guess not. This season it will be the Veterans vs. the Rookies. If you have been on two or more challenges that makes you a Veteran.
Playing for the Veteran girls this time are:
Ruthie (RW Hawaii)
Anessa (RW Chicago)
Julie (RW New Orleans)
Montana (RW Boston)
Beth (RW LA)
Jisela (RR The Quest)
Robin (RW San Diego)
Katie (RR The Quest)
Playing for the Veteran guys this time are:
Timmy (RR 2)
Mark (RR 1)
Ace (RW Paris)
Derrick (RR Extreme)
David (RW Seattle)
Syrus (RW Boston)
Brad (RW San Diego)
Adam (RR The Quest)
Playing for the Rookie girls this time are:
Jo (RW San Francisco)
Cameran (RW San Diego)
Cara (RR South Pacific)
Kina (RR Extreme), Ibis (RR Extreme)
Jodi (RR Extreme)
Jillian (RR Extreme)
Susie (RR Australia)
Playing for the Rookie guys this time around are:
Danny (RR Extreme)
Landon (RW Philadelphia)
Adam (RW Paris)
MJ (RW Philadelphia)
Randy (RW San Diego)
Jamie (RW New Orleans)
Alton (RW Las Vegas)
Jeremy (RR South Pacific).
Now that the teams are set TJ tells the groups that the first challenge will not be against the opposing side but between themselves. Each group will play Last man standing. The winner will be the captain of their group. The last four people standing will also all win $1,000 from Energizer. The first group up is the Rookie men. The whole group goes insane. Danny is the first to go down. He is followed by Landon, Adam, Jeremy, MJ, Randy, and Jaime leaving Alton as our first captain. The Veteran guys are up next and decide they don't want to fight and waste their energy so they choose by playing Rock/Paper/Scissors. Timmy is the first to lose. He is followed by Ace, Derrick, David, Syrus, Brad, and Mark leaving Adam as the winner.
The Rookie girls are up next and decide to copy the Veteran boys. They play the same game and to be honest I didn't even write what order they went out. All I know is that Jo won. I hope these girls get a bit more exciting. Last up are the Veteran girls. They decide to fight it out because that is what real women do. On the platform, Jisela jumps off right away. I have a feeling she won't be around long (not like she ever has at one of these challenges). Beth is the first to get knocked in. I wonder if that's because everyone hates Beth? Beth is followed in by Montana, Robin, and Katie. That leaves Julie, Anessa, and Ruthie to fight it out and boy do they fight. After Julie gets a cut above her eye she and Anessa decide to jump off and give it to Ruthie.
Now that our captains.....
