The Gauntlet II: Episode 2
Coconuts? You Gotta Be Kidding Me!
Recap By Cari C.
December 13, 2005
All the challenges in the world they could do and they choose coconut transporting. What are the producers over at MTV smoking? I apologize for saying any task on TAR this season was lame because this challenge takes the cake. The one reason I watch this show is for some good competition and the fights. I mean what else is there. I could care less about who hooks up with whom anymore. It is just one big revolving door over there. If one of them gets something then there all going to get it since everyone has pretty much hooked up with at least one other former Road Ruler or Real Worlder. I watch this show now to see some good competitions and the occasional cat fight or meltdown that you know always happens. I will admit I did get a good meltdown and a good fight but where is the competition. This better start picking up soon or we are going to be in the same boat as last season.
Tonight we pick up where we left off last week with Jo having a meltdown. At the end of the show last week we saw Jo threaten to call the cops. She made good on her promise and did call the cops. Apparently she thought some one had manhandled her and she wanted to get out of that house. If she wanted some manhandling she should have ticked off Katie or Julie and then we would have really seen some manhandling. The cops arrive and Jo is escorted out. My question to Jo is have you never seen this show? This happens all the time. Your season of Real World was different from any other season. Every other season of Real World and every season of Road Rules are full of debauchery. The challenges are even worse. You give a group of twenty-somethings a free place to live, free food, free sex, and free alcohol what do you expect. Add in a pool and a tropical locale and let the debauchery begin.
Of course everyone is happy to see Jo go. Apparently they all think she is crazy. Poor Derrick wakes up after he passed out and has no clue as to what is going on. I thought Derrick was going to quit drinking? I guess Chris and his message of religion and love was lost on Derrick. The next morning the teams converge on the beach for their first challenge. TJ arrives and tells them this challenge is called Chock full of Coconuts. Before we can get to the challenge however a new captain for the Rookie girls must be chosen. Since no one really wants to step up the producers decide that since Kina was the person off right before Jo she will be the new captain.
With the new captain set, TJ explains the rules of the challenge. In this challenge teams must move 200 coconuts to the deposit area on two bamboo sticks. If they drop any coconuts one person must pick up the dropped coconuts while the other must carry back the bamboo sticks. This is a male Gauntlet day and the male captain that wins will win a $1000 gift certificate to Best Buy. The losing male will of course go into the Gauntlet. Both teams are given a few minutes to decide upon their strategy. The Veterans decide to let all the men go first and then the women. The Rookies decide that they are going in boy/girl pairs.
TJ gathers up both teams.....
