The Gauntlet 2
The Most Boring Cat Fight On Reality TV
Recap By Jacob D.
February 14, 2006
Previously On The Gauntlet 2:
Alton and Jodi sparked up a friendship. The Veteran team tried to end their 3 game losing streak and failed, with the Rookies taking their 4th consecutive win. Syrus is sent to face Derrick in the gauntlet and strikes out. With Syrus gone, Beth worries about her place in the competition since she felt Syrus was her only friend. In the end of the episode, Alton and Jodi are seen getting "closer."
Before I go on with this week's recap, I must address something that has been bugging me. Ok, the rules for separating contestants into the "Rookie" and "Veteran" categories involved the number of RW/RR challenges they were involved in prior to this one. If you were in 2 or more, you're a "Veteran." Less than 2, you're a "Rookie." Well Jamie Murray (whom I absolutely adore), of RW: New Orleans fame, was in fact, in two prior challenges. He was in the Extreme Challenge, the last challenge before the "voting people off" feature went into effect. He was last seen in the first "Battle Of The Sexes" challenge. Not only was he on both of those challenges, but he went on to win BOTH. How was he classified as a "Rookie?"
Anyways, that ends my rant. On with the show.
We begin the show with the Veteran guys lamenting their team's current losing streak. Timmy says it's the first time he's been in a losing situation (even though he annoys me, he's right). Mark comments that any guy they lose makes them weaker, while any guy the Rookie team loses makes them stronger. That didn't make sense to me at first, but now it kind of does. Consider who's been kicked off of both teams so far. On the Rookie team, you have loose cannon Danny and waif Adam K. On the Veteran team, you have Adam L., Ace, and Syrus, who were all very strong competitors. Plus, the Veteran team actually seems like one whole "team." The Rookies seem to be splintering off into cliques. Or at least, "Us vs. Susie and Cara" and that's never good for a team on any reality show.
The guys also address the major concern for their team: Beth. Considering what kind of reputation she has and how she's fully aware of it, why does Beth keep coming on these shows? She knows things always end up like this. Why does she keep putting herself through it? I mean, I love Beth, but it doesn't make sense. For all her cries of victimization, she's really just adding fuel to the flame. Call it grabbing for attention, but who knows. The guys are tired of Beth and her drama causing ways. David interviews that Beth says she wants respect, but she hasn't really done much to earn it. Then Timmy, of course, has to say something stupid by saying that one of the guys needs to bang her. I may be the new recapper here, but I agree with Brendan Moore....Timmy loves to say dumb things and they just get on my nerves.
Kina and Beth are chatting and Kina mentions that it is sort of a popularity contest around there. Beth continues her Victimization Parade and says to Kina, "Why should I help them win money?" Beth also interviews that her team doesn't think she's an asset. What clued her in? Beth says it all makes her skin crawl.
We then go to Cara and Susie on the Rookie's side of things. Cara says to Susie that Kina has been ignoring her. Susie interviews that the other 4 girls (Ibis, Kina, Jodi, and Jillian) are all a unit and have isolated Cara and Susie, causing the two to bond. She also says that the more they (Cara and Susie) bond, the madder it makes the other girls. Kina interviews that even though Cara and Susie are good competitors, it is them who isolate themselves from the group, making the team a little less cohesive.
The teams' sidekicks chime in, giving them notice of their next challenge. "Don't let your team down. Meet me at the port in your bathing suits and tennis shoes." We see the Veteran team stretching and warming up and this is where Timmy reaches a new low in his stupidity...he is wearing some ugly wig and a shirt with a drawing of a woman's body in a bikini and saying that since it's a female gauntlet day, he must think like a woman. Ok, I am so sick of this "Timmy The Class Clown" thing. Its like, this guy devotes all his energy into saying or doing dumb things to make people laugh. That's fine, in theory, but you better get the execution down right or else it just comes off as obnoxious. I mean, it's like he's Jim Carrey, you know? The guy never quits. He's always doing something and there is no "OFF" button....just "ON" and "MORE MANIC." And just look at the way he manipulates his face when he talks or better yet, go back to the episode where Anessa explodes on Cara at the Kina/Cameran gauntlet and look at Timmy behind her. It's like "BE THE CLASS CLOWN" is his M.O. and its spread to every fiber of his being. Sorry to go on, but it just bugs me to no end. Timmy also interviews that he's tired of losing and really wants to win.
TJ welcomes the teams to the challenge site......
