The Gauntlet 2: Episode 13
Beth's True Colors

Recap By Jacob D.
February 28, 2006
Previously On The Gauntlet II
The Veteran team becomes more and more fed up with Beth and in the "Spare Tires" challenge, tell her to give up in the middle of her run. The Veterans end up winning and Alton faces Jeremy in the gauntlet. Alton wins and Jeremy is sent packing.

We begin this week with a scene featuring Randy and Kinda. Randy is showing Kina how to defend herself and win various gauntlets. Kina can't imagine going home, seeing as how she's made it this far. Randy and Kina both interview that they don't want to see each other leave.

With the sidekicks chiming in, the teams get their next challenge. "Now that the teams are even, who will tip the balance at tomorrow's challenge? See ya at the port at 8 a.m.!" Julie is happy that the Veterans have won the last two challenges and are catching up with the Rookies.

Derrick, Julie, and Aneesa all talk privately about the competition. Aneesa interviews that someone needs to take Beth out. Julie tells Derrick and Aneesa that Beth is broke and really needs this money and will do whatever for it. And your point is, Julie? Why wouldn't someone want a free vacation and a chance to win prizes and thousands of dollars? Why are you here Julie? Anyways, I was a little put off as to why Julie would bring that up. Aneesa tells Julie that they just need someone to take out Beth, but she immediately goes quiet when she notices Beth is around. Beth, who heard what they were saying, confronts them about talking behind her back. Beth interviews that she finds it funny that Aneesa is talking about having someone knock her out when she feels Aneesa is the weakest girl. Beth hates how they're talking about her when she doesn't talk about them and wonders why Aneesa hasn't stepped up. Aneesa says she has heart and will do whatever her team needs her to do. Beth interviews that she hates her team and hates being treated like crap.

And really, for someone who's so against Beth and isn't scared of her, why was Aneesa afraid to speak up when Beth came into the conversation?

After this tête-à-tête, Beth is alone in the driveway crying when Julie comes up and tries to comfort her. Julie tells Beth that she knows it's hard to feel like you don't have any friends and that the way people talk sometimes is out of fear. She also says that Aneesa doesn't want to go against Beth. Ok Julie, if you mean what you say that's fine, but don't go blowing smoke at Beth. Besides, I didn't hear you stepping up to take on Beth. Beth tells Julie that she wanted to slap Aneesa and that all the negative energy the team is feeding her is just fueling her to go further. She tells Julie, "Bring it on bitches" and that no one is getting past her.

The next day, the teams meet up at the port and TJ explains the "Easy Does It" challenge. The set up is a platform suspended above water with a rope going across the top and two rope ladders hanging off opposite ends of the platform. For this challenge, the teams will divide up into pairs of two. Each pair will swim in and climb up the ladders and then try to scurry across the platform to the opposite ladder and climb down. The platform is only connected at two points, so the pairs will have to deal with a lot of tilting. The pairs will have ten minutes to complete their turns and if someone falls, they both have to start over from the bottom with their clock still ticking. You cannot jump at any point and if you do, it's an automatic disqualification for your pair and a 10 minute credit to your team's time. Once a pair successfully finishes or their time runs out, the next pair may go in. The team with the fastest combined time will get $10,000 and the female captain, it being a female gauntlet day, will win a T-Mobile Sidekick 2 with a year's service.

The Rookie team goes first and the first pair is, once again, Alton and Landon. They synchronize their moves as best they can and make it up, over, and down the platform quickly. The next to go are Jamie and Jodi. Though they must deal with the platform tipping severely, they manage to complete their turn. Kina and Jillian are the third pair to go in. Now, what puzzles me is that Jillian made it up the ladder before Kina, but just stood at the top of her ladder. Kina grabs the rope on her side and tells Jillian to get up there and balance the platform out, but it tips and Kina goes flying into the water. With 3 minutes left for them, this time the tables are turned and Jillian has the rope on her side. However, Kina does what Jillian didn't and still tries to get the rope, but oddly enough, Alton is kind of egging her on, telling her she has to try and she cannot give up. What? Kina was trying and your kinda, sorta giving her crap? How fair is that? Jillian is the one who went to the top first in the first try and just stood there, leaving Kina to take the rope and fall in. Anyways, Kina tries to grab the rope and does, but the platform tips and Jillian falls in the water. Their 10 minutes are up.

Ibis and Susie jump in next. When Kina gets out of the water, Alton assures her that it's not her fault and that anything could happen. Kina is extremely upset with herself. With Susie and Ibis at the platform, Susie tries to convince Ibis to try and grab the rope, but she can't and tries to tell her team that she can't do it. She interviews that it's impossible for her. With two and a half minutes left, Landon interviews that Ibis struggling for the second challenge in a row doesn't make her look good. Their time runs out and Randy and MJ are the last to go. They struggle and MJ ends up falling off the platform. Randy, mistakenly, jumps down to start over and they are both disqualified. Randy tells the team that he didn't know that the "No Jumping" rule also applied to going back down to restart and I kind of agree with him here. I didn't know the full extent of that rule either. I don't think this should, or will, be held against Randy. Alton says that unless the Veterans really mess up, the Rookies are gonna lose. Kina is so "ungodly pissed off" with how things have turned out that she wishes the gauntlet were right there with them.

It's the Veteran team's turn .....
