The Gauntlet 2: Episode 14
Blind Trust And Beach Balling
Recap By Jacob D.
March 14, 2006
Previously on The Gauntlet 2:
With Beth out of the picture, the Veterans focused on winning. The challenge involved the teams climbing out of a pit and the Rookies won. Brad was inexplicably voted to the gauntlet and taken out by Derrick. Alton and Jodi learned that their relationship is strictly a platonic one for now.
We begin this episode, again, with Randy and Kina hugging. Kina is bemoaning the fact that this is the final girl gauntlet challenge and she is always at risk. She thinks that, on top of worrying about everything else, it would be horrible to go home on the final girl gauntlet. Kina tells Randy that it's all dependent on who goes with what gauntlet. If she gets "Reverse Tug Of War" with Jillian, she's good. If it's "Beach Brawl" with Ibis, then it could be close. Randy tells her it's a matter of who she can beat and Kina says it's a matter of who's the easiest to beat for her.
The sidekicks ring in, alerting them of their challenge. "Trust me. This picture perfect challenge will blindside you. Wear your bathing suits and tennis shoes and be ready to leave at 9:30 a.m. Aneesa is feeling pressure because as the captain, if her team loses she'll have to fight one of her friends in the gauntlet.
The next day, TJ welcomes the teams to the "Blind Trust" challenge. There are two platforms suspended 20 feet above water and connected by a balance beam. Above the beam is a line where the pictures of all the members on each team (even the eliminated ones) are hanging. Each team member will have to go across the beam collecting their own picture and one other picture of a person who has not participated in this challenge (i.e. Kina would go across and grab her picture, plus, say, Jeremy's picture). Once they reach the opposite platform, they will place their pictures in the corresponding spaces on the board. The twist though, is that while the first person to go across won't be blindfolded, everyone else will. The first person to go will coach the next person and help them across the beam (while still grabbing two pictures) and once that person gets across and places their pictures on the board, they will take off their blindfold and coach the next person across. Each person will get 10 minutes and if you fall, it's an automatic ten minute credit.
The Rookie team has two extra members so they must sit two people out, one male and one female. The female that sits out is automatically exempt from the gauntlet. Ibis is nervous because she knows she could be a candidate for the gauntlet. Kina decides to sit Jodi out because she wants Jodi with her in the final challenge, plus MJ will sit out. Jillian interviews that it would suck to get this far and then go home and she hopes it's not her.
The Rookie team goes first and Ibis will be going across first. She interviews that since she's not blindfolded, she'll be trying to get a good time. She pulls her picture and Cameran's and makes it across in a time of 1:09.
Now, the challenge here is that not only are you blindfolded, but the balance beam has various bumps and angles that can trip you up if your coach isn't careful. Ibis directs Randy and he makes it across with his and Danny's pictures in a time of 5:09. Randy directs Jillian and she interviews that the pictures are tough to pull, so it could throw you off balance. She gets across with her and Cara's pictures in a time of 6:55. It's Alton's turn and Jillian is doing a poor job of directing him across, almost leading to him falling. He makes it across with his and Adam K.'s pictures in a slow time of 8:39. Their gonna need to pick up the pace.
Alton directs Kina across and she just wants.....
