The Gauntlet 2: Episode 16
The Final Challenge

Recap By Jacob D.
March 29, 2006
Previously On the Gauntlet 2:
Kina and Randy are nervous that they will be split apart with the final male gauntlet challenge looming. At a challenge that involved taking apart and putting together a bike, Randy proved the star as he helped his team to a victory, securing his and the other Rookie men's' places in the final challenge. Derrick, distraught over facing a 5th gauntlet, wants to go against David, but Timmy volunteers himself. The gauntlet is 'Reverse Tug-Of-War' and the episode ends before we see who wins...

We begin this last episode with a bit of backtracking. We see Derrick and Timmy prepare for the gauntlet and Derrick interviews that he's already sent 4 of his friends home and now he's going against Timmy. He does not want to lose. Katie interviews that she likes both of them. She says Timmy is a good asset to the team, but Derrick has a lot of heart and deserves to be here more than anyone on both teams.

The men take their position and TJ rings the bell. There's not really any contest...Reverse Tug-Of-War is the one challenge where size IS a factor (otherwise Ruthie would still be here) and Timmy makes quick work of Derrick, despite Derrick's best efforts. So Timmy wins and everyone is a bit sad. The Rookies, the Veterans, everyone. Jodi interviews that her heart aches for him because he worked so hard to get here and now he's going home the day before the last challenge. Though we don't see it, you can hear Derrick begin to cry as he interviews about how hard he worked to get to this point and now it's over for him.

After the gauntlet, Derrick tells Timmy not to be upset that he's going. Timmy says he doesn't want Derrick to go because he deserves it more than anyone. Right here, I'm hoping Timmy will leave, not because I dislike Timmy, but because I want Derrick to stay, but Timmy doesn't do that. It's sad, but there's nothing we can do. TJ dubs Timmy the new captain and tells Derrick there are no words. Everyone cheers for Derrick. Various people hug Derrick and wish him well. As he leaves, everyone gathers around to give him a big farewell. His advice to both teams for the final challenge? No pain, no gain.

Later, Mark reads off of the sidekick about their final challenge. Something about going "all in" and get your "booty" ready. Everyone wishes each other well.

The next day, the Veterans prepare and Timmy interviews that they are ready to upset the Rookies. Over on the Rookie team, Kina says losing is not an option.

The teams are gathered at the gauntlet site where the final challenge will take place. TJ welcomes them all and Timmy interviews that everyone has been through so much. The final challenge is called "Bet Your Booty" and will be worth $150,000. The challenge involves three stages: an eating challenge (involving 12 lbs. of Roti), a memory challenge, and a "sprint." I put the word sprint in quotation marks because the sprinting course is like what? 5 inches long? Couldn't these people have come up with a better final challenge? Make the girls carry the guys on their shoulders over a hill while the guys sing "I Will Always Love You" word for word and juggle chainsaws! Make each team fight their own team of previously eliminated comrades in an obstacle challenge. Make Coral come back and get bitten by a spider again, do something better than "Eat. Match. Run."

Anyways, the teams will split into groups because each member must and can only compete in one event. It's called "Bet Your Booty" because for each course, the teams will bet a certain amount of coins (out of 250) that their group will win that event. The max bet is 248 because you must bet at least one coin in each event.

The teams will deliberate for 30 minutes over who should do what and for how many coins. The Rookies decide to put Landon and Alton in the sprint event and stack most of their coins on that event. Randy says the key to this challenge is betting the most on an event you know you can win.

The Rookie Team Breakdown:
Eating Event- Randy, Jamie, Ibis, Jodi for 1 coin
Memory Event- Susie, Kina for 1 coin
Relay Event- Landon, Alton, MJ for 248 coins

On the Veteran team, they kind of have the same idea except in reverse. Julie suggests that they place a max bet on the first event (Eating) and put as many people as they can on it, so they take the vast lead early and win. Timmy interviews that they're betting it all on the eating event and hope to take down the Rookies in one fell swoop.

The Veteran Team Breakdown:
Eating Event- Timmy, Robin, Mark, Julie, David for 248 coins
Memory Event- Katie for 1 coin
Relay Event- Aneesa for 1 coin

TJ explains the eating event.....
