How To Get The Guy: Online and Blind

Episode 2 Recap by Ana Leon
June 21, 2006

During episode two of How to Get the Guy we follow the girls as they are introduced to the scary and mostly disappointing world of Online dating. The show opens with JD and Teresa talking about letting go of expectations. So it seems that now we are going to preach to the girls about lowering their standards. Sounds like plan.

Michelle has a long list of expectations for her potential mate as she should. With so many fish in the sea I really don't think we should sell ourselves short.

Anne dishes the details on her previous date with Dennis. They hit it off, laughed a lot and she even got a kiss. Her coaches advise that the best things to do between a first and second date are to avoid calling him and to go out with another guy. Sounds like the recipe for success. I am glad they aren't trying to play games or anything.

JD and Teresa introduce Michelle to an online dating web site. The site that the coaches choose for Michelle is called Engage and they choose this because it allows her friends and family members to help her pick her suitors. Their strategy is for the girls to date as many guys as they can. Which makes sense because this can help them to better know themselves and to better gauge what they are looking for.

They help Michelle create a profile and give her some guidelines. They advise her that her headline should be catchy and interesting for obvious reasons. If the guys don't take the bait then she has missed the opportunity. Teresa suggests a quote from her favorite movie and they decide on "Leave the gun, take the canoli", from The Godfather movies. I very much liked the Godfather movies but wouldn't have chosen that for my headline. I'm just not sure that many men are actually going to find that attractive.

JD goes over the do's and don't for an online photo. He says that you should be smiling, in focus and alone. I make a mental note to delete that wedding photo from my own online profile. They discuss the importance of including a photo with your profile because people are generally shallow after all.

We learn a couple critical rules for online dating which are to always have an exit strategy and to always meet in a heavily populated location. I suppose if you insist on dating online these are good rules to live by.

The girls go on some more weird dates and remind us yet again that there are plenty of quality individuals just waiting for us out there

Ann meets a decent guy named Jimmy for dinner and a walk on the beach. They seem to have good conversation and end up sharing a little kiss.

Next the girls are told they will have to endure a couple of dates while they are blind folded and they will have to choose the man that they would like to date again without ever laying eyes on them. If only they had ear plugs and protective glass in between them. To me, this is the recipe for disaster and could prove to be a waste of time. Everyone knows you have to be physically attracted to your mate. How awkward would it be to hit it off with someone only to reveal a monster when the blind fold is removed?

A couple of the girls.....
