Elyse Moretti Laguna Beach: Holiday Party Crashing

Episode 3 Recap by Elyse Moretti
August 31, 2006

Laguna Beach offers viewers a departure from reality not only in lifestyle, but also in time. As the rest of us shuffle back to school and back to work, Laguna Beach residents are gearing up for the holiday season.

Tessa and Rocky string lights and discuss their plans for the holidays. Rocky inquires about Chase, and Tessa simply states they are better off as friends. He's not coming to Rocky's party, Tessa says, because of 'band stuff.' Rocky contemplates her decision to forgo formal invites and promote the party primarily through word of mouth. Tessa thinks she'll be fine, because everyone knows about Rocky's annual holiday party. They also discuss Kyndra and Cami's clique, who were most certainly not invited.

Meanwhile, Kyndra and Cami discuss their own holiday party. When going over the guest list, they make sure to include their favorite guys, Derek, Cameron, and Kelan, and the few girls they can tolerate: Candice, Rachel, and Lexie. They laugh off the possibility that Tessa and Rocky may crash their party and make fun of the two best friends.

The guys won't let Cameron forget about his stint with Jessica. They tease him mercilessly and make fun of Jessica as well. Finally, the topic of conversation turns to the holiday parties that week. Everyone is going to Rocky's party that evening and Kyndra's the following day.

Tessa and Rocky continue their domestic holiday duties by suiting up in aprons to bake for the party. Rocky's boyfriend, Alex, and his friend EJ, show up early, and Rocky puts them to work because she and Tessa need to get ready.

Later, at the party, everything is running smoothly until Kyndra and Cami turn up. On the way over, they make fun of Rocky and boast about crashing her party. Kyndra hopes that their showing up uninvited won't prompt Rocky and Tessa to reciprocate the action during Kyndra's party the next evening. The girls also discuss how Rocky should know better than to invite the guys, like Cameron, who are friends with Kyndra and Cami, too.

Intending to make an appearance and bail, Kyndra and Cami can't help but stir up some drama. They accuse Rocky's cousin Stephanie of making rude remarks to Cami and Kyndra takes matters into her own hands, calling Stephanie out in front of everyone. Soon, Stephanie is in tears, and Rocky tries to diffuse the situation.

The next day, Tessa and Rocky talk about their favorite moments of the party as Kyndra and Cami recount the events of Rocky's party for Kyndra's mom. Tessa tells Rocky how she kept pointing out Rocky's boyfriend, Alex, and that all the girls thought he was really hot. Elsewhere, Cami and Kyndra wonder if Rocky and Tessa will show up to their party. Kyndra reasons that they did crash Rocky's party, but then Cami points out that first, Rocky showed up uninvited to Kyndra's barbeque (during the first episode of Season 3), so the girls decide that they are even. Kyndra's mom laughs as the girls rip apart Rocky for the zillionth time.

Later, Rocky's boyfriend Alex picks her up for dinner, and the parents jokingly ask if they can tag along. At Olamondi's, Alex tells Rocky she looks great tonight, and she asks him what he's thinking. He responds that he really likes her. Then he tells her that EJ thinks he's whipped, but then let's her know that she's worth it. Rocky beams. When they talk about their post-dinner plans, Rocky mentions that Kyndra is having a party, but she hates Rocky. Alex, like many Laguna fans, wonders why.

Kyndra and Cami primp for the party. Kyndra thanks Cameron for wearing a collared shirt, and the boys continue their relentless taunting about Jessica. Cameron gets sick of it and calls her. When Kyndra joins in on the jeering, Cameron lets her know that it bothers him and leaves the party. For the first time, Kyndra looks genuinely worried about Jessica.

Tessa questions her best friend about her date wistfully. Rocky says she couldn't stop smiling; she was so excited to be out with Alex. Tessa says she wants to go on a date. Rocky tries to cheer her up by dropping a bombshell-she didn't show up to Kyndra's party, but she heard that Cameron walked out on Kyndra. "I just feel so bad for her," Rocky says sarcastically.

Kyndra and Cami recap their night. They can't understand why Cameron went running after Jessica. Kyndra comments on how clingy and possessive Jessica and other girls can be. She speculates that the reason there is so much drama among girls is because some girls think they have a claim on guys, even if they only went out 'for a week in the sixth grade.'

The episode closes with Cameron and Jessica eating together. Jessica smugly asks why he didn't have fun at Kyndra's. "She tried to get on you and you denied her?" she questions, and Cameron says that's what happened. Jessica's face lights up, and Cameron comments on the fact that she's all smiles today. "I can't be smiley?" she asks. The two decide to continue hanging out and get into the car. Cameron awkwardly calls her 'shnookums' and tells her to buckle up so nothing bad will happen to her. Then, even more awkwardly, she asks him if he would be sad if she died. Cameron says, "I'd probably just call Kyndra," and Jessica playfully scolds him. The trouble for Jessica is, all kidding aside; I think Cameron might actually be telling the truth...

Stay tuned for next week's episode of Laguna Beach 3, which promises to delve deeper into the lives and relationships of other characters which have only been on the periphery so far.
