Episode 7 Recap by Elyse Moretti
September 28, 2006
What a tangled web those Laguna Beachers weave! This week's Winter
Formal exploits included what was arguably the most dramatic arch of the
season so far. Sure, Cameron's a cheater. But he basically lets
everyone know it. Kyndra's much, much sneakier. Well, as sneaky as you
can be when cameras follow your every move.
With the annual Winter Formal approaching, the girls of Laguna are
stressing over their date choices and how to ask them, since it's
tradition for the girls to ask the guys to formal. They also discuss
dresses and the subject of online shopping comes up. Cami declares that
she would never shop online. The topic turns back to formal dates.
Kyndra's going to ask someone named Derek to formal because new/old
boyfriend Tyler is 'too old'. Plus, formal is all about her going out
with her friends and not hanging out with her old boyfriend. Cami
predicts that Kyndra is going to hook up with Cameron at the formal no
matter who she brings. Kyndra giggles and hopes she can survive formal
without jealous Tyler killing her.
Tessa and Chase have also got the formal on their minds. They check out
Chase's favorite shop, which is 'rad' according to our
rockstar-in-the-making. Tessa says she's not sure who she wants to ask,
and Chase questions her about Cameron. Things were pretty awkward
between them, and he's already been snatched up by another girl. Chase
is also taken, and he tells Tessa how excited he is, because Laguna has
'pretty raging dances!'
At Kelan's house, we get a glimpse of the girl-asks-guy tradition up
close and personal as Lexie, the so-called ice queen, decorates her car
with pink silly string and has an elaborate arrangement of pink
balloons. She doesn't know what to write with the silly string, and
asks her friend Rachel for help. Rachel jokes that she should write, "I
love you" and Lexie snaps, "He's cute and all, but I don't want him to
get the wrong idea." Whoa. I guess she really IS an ice queen.
Finally, Lexie finishes her preparation, and asks Kelan to the formal.
He answers, "I guess," which makes me wish once again he had more air time.
Kyndra and Cami have been complaining about the whole girls-ask-guys
concept. Kyndra has a pizza for her potential date, Derek. Instead of
being psyched that Kyndra brought him something useful and tasty instead
of pink balloons, Derek chooses to blurt out, "How old is this pizza?"
He doesn't know how good he has it.
Meanwhile, Tyler (Kyndra's on-again, off-again, currently-on-again
boyfriend) catches up with his little sister, Nikki. They casually
discuss how Nikki has recently bought a $1300 dress that she is only
going to wear once. Tyler seems to disapprove of her wasteful
ways...could this mean there ARE signs of life on Planet Tyler? Nikki
tries to defend herself, saying, "You know me. Sometimes I don't have
anything else to do." She also turns the tables on Tyler, asking him
how he feels about his newly-reappointed girlfriend going to the dance
with someone else. Needless to say, Ty's not thrilled.
For some reason, even Rocky is stressing out about inviting her date,
although it's her BOYFRIEND. She has a picnic and is nervously rambling
to her mom on the phone before Alex shows up. She launches into a whole
speech about why she hates formal, but then tells Alex, "You make me
want to go to formal." Wow. No. I'm not even gonna touch that one.
Too easy.
Kyndra and Tyler go for a walk on the beach, and Kyndra points out that
it's her first dance without Tyler. She tells him she doesn't want to
stay very long. Once again showing signs of life, Tyler points out that
she might want to hang out with the 'water ball' players. Kyndra
promises to be a 'good girl' and Tyler hilariously responds, "Whatever."
Cameron asks his good friend Kelan if he's going to make a move on Lexie
at formal. Kelan tells him it's a lost cause and he doesn't feel like
being rejected. He also asks Cameron about the possibility of Cam
hooking up with Kyndra. Cameron says it would be completely random, but
Kelan points out that's how it usually is with formals--you show up with
your date and you hook up with someone else.
The girls prepare for the formal with a trip to the salon. Candace,
Cami, and Kyndra discuss the evening ahead of them. Kyndra lets her
friends know that she and Tyler set 'guidelines' for the evening.
Basically, says Kyndra, "Don't cheat." In the next breath, she's
saying, "He trusts me, obviously." Obviously. Yeah. Then she adds
that the only thing she is worried about is losing her morals and her shoes.
Tessa and Rocky get ready for the dance, and Rocky's mom sees them off.
Both groups of Beachers take stretch limos to the formal. Once they
arrive, people pour in from all sides. Cameron and Kyndra seem cozy,
with Cameron telling Kyndra she should go to a water polo game, and
Kyndra telling Cam he is "MIA." Then she whispers something in his ear,
and Tyler's sister Nikki immediately picks up, shooting Kyndra death
glares and accusing her of being shady.
Post-formal, Rocky and Alex cuddle. Nikki continues the glare campaign
on Kyndra/Cameron, but the two don't notice a thing. In the morning,
Kyndra whispers to Cami that she needs to go to church the next day,
because 'I have sinned.' She asks Cami if she hooked up with anyone.
When Cami says no, Kyndra says "I did. Don't tell anyone!" Nikki and
Kyndra talk in private. Nikki prods, "You didn't hook up with anyone?"
Kyndra says she did not, and Nikki accuses her of lying. "Break up
with somebody if you're going to cheat," she says frostily.
Back at Rocky's house, Tessa and Rocky talk about the dance. Both girls
had a great time, but Tessa didn't get enough time to dance since she
was talking with people most of the evening. Rocky says her voice is
still gone from trying to shout over the music. She worries what would
happen were she caught in a dark alley. Then she and Tessa astutely
observe that there are no dark alleys in Laguna Beach.
Candace and Cami discuss Kyndra's "secret." Candace thought it was out
of left field, but Cami doesn't seem too surprised. She also speculates
that Kyndra doesn't care about Tyler, but is only saying she does for
Nikki's sake.
Speaking of Kyndra and Nikki, they go out to eat and Kyndra oddly says,
"No one hooked up with anyone last night" She also proclaims that she
was such a good girl and she didn't do anything. Nikki says she knows
because she was there, but continues to shoot Kyndra with penetrating
glares.
Tune in next week to see Rocky drop the L bomb and Tyler find out about
Kyndra's lies!
