Welcome to the series premiere of Million Dollar Listing!
We are introduced to Shannon McLeod. She is trying to sell her ex-fiancé's house without ruining their relationship. We are also introduced to Madison Hildebrand, who is a real estate newbie trying to sell a high-dollar property in need of repair.
Madison tells us that he lives in Malibu with his dog, Rex. He has only been selling real estate in Malibu for six months, but he has already sold $17 million dollars worth of property. Today, Madison is going to his first listing appointment with a seller. He is excited and hopes that he gets the listing.
Madison meets Howard Stone, who is the seller of the house. He had originally bought it to make it into a drug and rehab center, but the contractor screwed up and the house went 60% over budget. Madison is invited in the house and he thinks that it is amazing. Howard is pissed at how much money and time he's lost on the property. Madison thinks that the entertainment room is the best room in the house. The house has a lot of potential, but it also needs a lot of work. Madison tells Howard that this house has some of the best views in Malibu.
Madison tells us that other houses in this neighborhood range from $2 million dollars to $30 million dollars. They have decided to list the home at $3,195,000. Madison convinces Howard to do 6% commission for two months, and then it will go down to 5% commission. Howard and Madison will split the commission half-and-half. The potential commission that can be made off the house is $95,850. Howard and Madison shake hands, and Madison leaves. He is excited that he got the listing.
We are reintroduced to Shannon. She tells us that she lives and sells real estate in Hollywood, California. She has been selling real estate for three years. She loves living in Hollywood, but she says that dating is difficult. She goes in to her work office and tells her co-workers that she got a listing and is headed off to her listing appointment. She is selling her ex-fiancé Jeff's house. She and Jeff broke up four months earlier.
Shannon says that Jeff's house is in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in California. Keanu Reeves and Leonardo DiCaprio both own houses in that neighborhood. Jeff introduces himself and tells us that he has owned the house for three years. The house is unique and beautiful, with a custom-tiled pool and a rooftop cabana. Jeff thinks the house is great for someone who wants to entertain. Jeff says that the master bedroom and the Jacuzzi for two are very special. Shannon also chimes in that they're very special.
Shannon gets out the contract for Jeff to sign. Shannon says that the houses in Jeff's neighborhood sell from $1.5 million to $5 million dollars. She has the opportunity to make $59,875 dollars commission on Jeff's house. She says that it's easy working with Jeff because she knows him and knows how he thinks. They decide to list Jeff's house for $2,395,000 dollars. Shannon and Jeff say goodbye, and Shannon leaves.
Howard's property has been on the market for one week, and Madison's friend Greg is the first prospective buyer on the property. Greg is with his real estate agent Scotty Brown, and his financial advisor Ian. Madison is a little upset that Greg has gotten a new agent. Scotty thinks that it has a lot of potential, and that it could be sold for 1 to 2 million dollars more once it's fixed up. Madison is very excited and thinks that the showing couldn't have gone better. He calls Howard and tells him that Greg is writing in an offer.
Back in Hollywood, Jeff's house also has been on the market for a week. Shannon is holding an open house showing, but she didn't get her advertisement finished in time and hopes that people will just stop in from seeing the signs. She is preparing cocktails for the potential buyers. Shannon thinks that Jeff won't be able to let go of the house. Jeff disagrees, saying that he is a single guy, and he doesn't need to fall in love with a house. He has a really pained look on his face, and I feel bad for him. Wanting to fall in love with someone and working with your ex-fiancé must be difficult.
A couple comes in to Jeff's house. This woman has some of the biggest breasts that I have ever seen, and they're popping out of her tiny, tight leather half-shirt. Shannon quickly learns that they have just bought a house down the street, and are only here for the free drinks. The guy walks into the master bedroom, and says that the room would be perfect for his "website's photography". What kind of website could that be?
Madison tells us that he received a call this morning from Greg's agent Scotty. He is going to see Scotty now and hopes that it is an offer. Madison arrives at Scotty's office and Scotty does give him an offer, which is only $60,000 dollars under their original asking price. Madison says that he feels the offer is strong and he will do his best to make this work. He is going to see Howard right now.
Madison has met with Howard and is now coming back to meet with Scotty. His offer has been accepted, and the house is being sold to them in as-is condition. Madison tells him to call if he has any further questions, and they shake hands and part ways.
Back in Hollywood, Jeff's house has been on the market for two weeks now. Shannon is holding another open house, and she is doing everything possible to make the house look its best. Unfortunately, Shannon doesn't seem very interested, as she just sits at the bar and paints her nails while many potential buyers tour the house. Finally, a hot guy walks in and Shannon gives him a personal tour. While he looks at the pool area, Shannon applies more lip gloss in the bathroom. At the end, she gives him a business card and asks for his phone number for "business purposes". Sure, Shannon, sure.
Another family comes in the house.....
