Real World Austin: Nov. 15th Episode
Stay Away From The Booze People
By Natasha Darius
November 16, 2005
On The Real World...Last week, Nehemiah took the criticism of his editing of South by Southwest to heart. The RW crew were at a local bar. Afterwards everyone else, but Nehemiah stayed behind and had way too much to drink. Next thing we know, Wes is receiving a phone call from the county jail where Nehemiah is taking up residence. Now the roommates are trying to figure out a way to get him out.
Turns out that Nehemiah got into a fight and injured someone. It's going to cost these guys at least $2000 to bail him out. Rachel is hell bent on getting Nehemiah out only because their project is due and Nehemiah is the only one who can edit the project. Wow...Rachel has a heart. Nehemiah finally got through to the roommates and he explains that he did get into a fight. To get him out of jail, will cost $3000.
Danny seems to be the only one who cares about Nehemiah getting out of jail. Everyone else is like ho hum. Rachel and Lacey are nothing but hephas. I can't stand them. I hope ya'll never get into trouble and Nehemiah is left with the decision to help you out. Ya'll suck.
Meanwhile, Rachel and Lacey attempt to edit the project but they realize that they can't do it so they call the editor, David, from the Austin Film Festival. Danny returns from the county jail to inform everyone else that Nehemiah is actually facing up to $4000 in fines and 1 year of jail time. Oooooooooh Nehemiah. Who pissed you off that much for you to go off and do such damage. Stay away from the booze, people.
It's really annoying to me how the roommates are so blaze' about this situation. But when Johanna was in jail for stealing a flower, everybody was up in arms. Am I pulling the race card? Absolutely not. I'm just stating a distinct difference here. Think whatever you want.
I know we're only seeing the edited version of The Real World, but what I saw still sucks.
Anyhoo...Nehemiah finally comes home after spending the night in jail. Mel and Johanna greet him with a hug. What do the rest of the roommates do? They quickly let him know that the South by Southwest project is waiting on him for editing. But before he sits down to do the job, Wes begs for details about what happened. Nehemiah did get into a fight, however when the cops came they saw Nehemiah throwing the punch and immediately took him off to the slammer. According to Nehemiah the cops did not tell him what he was facing as far as fines and jail time. Imagine that. Am I pulling the race card? Absolutely not. I'm just telling you what I heard. If you care...watch the reruns on the weekend and you be the judge.
While Nehemiah is slaving (no pun intended of course) away on the South by Southwest project, the roommates are partying it up. Guess who comes home totally and completely wasted? Wes. He could barely stand up or walk straight. I'll never understand why anyone would drink themselves into a belligerent idiot to a point where their fighting with people or breaking up with someone over a hypothetical question. (If you're confused about my last statement, read the previous recap about Danny's drunken state) Because Wes was not in control of himself, and that's what happens when you're drunk, he tore down Mel's closet door, threw an object at Mel and slapped Rachel in the face. Now I don't know how hard the slap was, but Rachel said it was enough of a slap that it made a sound. Okay.
Of course, the next morning, Wes hardly remembers anything. He remembers throwing something at Mel oddly enough and apologized for it. Mel told him that he needs to apologize to Rachel for slapping her. He was in total disbelief. "There's no way I could have done something like that." Uuuuh...yes you did Wes. And he also denied tearing down the closet door. Dude was actually arguing with his roommates that he didn't do any of those things. Okay. Why in the world would someone who has no recall for what they did, due to alcohol, argue with the people who were sober and witnessed everything that happened? I don't understand that.
On another note, Nehemiah was on a mission to find the guy he assaulted who happened to be the owner of the bar where the altercation happened. Nehemiah found the guy and apologized. The owner of the bar accepted his apology and all was well. I don't know if that will drop the charges against Nehemiah, but who knows...
Later, David the editor from the Austin Film Festival, stops by to let the roommates know that the deadline is in two days. So Nehemiah has to hustle and get things done. "I'm a man of my word and I will get this done even if I have to stay up all night to finish this project."
Needless to say, the South by Southwest project was completed as scheduled and now the RW crew can breathe easy. If you're interested in seeing the finished product, go to MTV's Overdrive. There you will find The Real South by Southwest as it's titled.
The season finale is next week and by the looks of the previews, the roommates farewell won't be on a high and happy note. Tempers explode and somebody might finally be the recipient of a knuckle sandwich. Who will it be?
