Skating With Celebrites: Episode 6
Passion And Romance Take The Night

Recap By Allie Axel
February 28, 2006
Ahhh, another episode of Skating with Celebrities is about to begin and I settle myself in to watch the excitement. We begin the episode by a re-introduction of the pairs and telling us their fate. Scott and Summer tell us how the celebrities threw themselves into this and have come a long way in a very short period of time. We are reminded they needed to learn 5 separate routines. I guess this is supposed to impress us. Granted, it was hard work, but when you have a rink and coaches/choreographers available to you and many hours to practice, it really isn't that big of a deal.

The show starts out by another look at the pairs. I was wondering how they would were going to fill an hour show and I guess I got my answer. Jenny comes out first doing a spiral and then a spin. Todd lifts Jenny. This lift seemed higher than the one they performed in their last program, which makes me wonder if they still practiced after being eliminated.

Next out is Kurt who performs a beautiful double axel and then some Arabians. Debbie stumbles, I mean skates, her way on the ice and I am reminded of why I wanted them to be eliminated. She tentatively grabs her foot and then Kurt lifts her. Most of the routines consists of them dancing and entertaining. Next out is Nancy doing traveling camels into and Arabian/back spin. Dave comes lunging out and they start to skate together. He seems smoother than previous performances. They do a mini inside death spiral and then out comes Tai doing a graceful Ina Bauer. Bruce follows to perform a waltz jump and then the little flip Tai over move they used in an attempt to stay alive last episode.

John and Jillian and Kristy and Lloyd then come out and bow. Scott then tells us after the break will be back to see their short programs.

After the break we have another piece of filler in the form of commentary from Dave regarding his experience on the show. Dave said he didn't know what to expect coming into this and that he is used to performing solo when doing standup. To perform these routines were sheer terror. He admitted there was one time he forgot their routine and didn't follow Nancy's cues. He thinks they made an unconscious decision to just have fun.

Summer then chats with John and Jillian who are on the practice rink. Practice rink?! I had no idea they had one of those tucked behind the stage. Hmmmmm. Jillian tells us this is the most fun she has had at anything, including her work and this was despite the fact she lost her voice (from skating????), had cortisone shots and got some bruises. John tells us they have been working on some tricks since the beginning of the show which they feel are now ready to be put into a routine and they are ready for the finals.

Scott introduces the judges to us and tells us they will be judging, as usual, the most entertaining program. What?!! That is what they have been judging this entire time? I guess it's nice they finally let us know that. Scott then tells us the requirements for the short program are a multi-jump sequence by the celebrity, a spin with at least 4 revolutions and an above the shoulder lift. Doesn't seem to be an issue for either team in my opinion.

We are told John and Jillian are a model of consistency, but the judges have made it clear, they want more. We see clips of them doing a pair camel spin. John tells us they have stayed in their comfort zone; they have avoided putting risky elements in their program because they haven't practiced them enough. John wants to go home knowing they did their all.

They start out their program with John holding Jillian's leg up by his shoulder and doing a little dancing. They are skating to Toxic by Britney Spears. John is wearing a red long sleeve tee-shirt and black leather pants. Jillian is wearing a red bra top with 2 small pieces of material crisscrossing her stomach to the very low rise skirt. Normally, skaters would have the exposed areas covered with a mesh, skin-toned material, but not Jillian. After some filler fluff, they perform the required jump sequence, side-by-side salchow/half loop/toe loop. They went right into side-by-side spins. John lifted Jillian into a platter lift and slid her down his back and threw his legs. He had a hard time grabbing her, kept fumbling through her hair to find something he could grab on to (that is why she should have had her hair up) and she fell a little on the ice. They recovered nicely however with another platter lift in which Jillian was completely flat over his head and John spun.

Sir John started off the judges' comments .....
