Commentary by Peter Andrew Sacco Ph.D. (Psyche Doctor)
April 6, 2007
Just when I kept preaching on his wonderful brainy prowess, Yau Man does something even more shocking. He flexes his muscles. Okay, make that muscle. A week ago it was launching the flaming ball. This week it was spear chucking and archery, hitting the mark both times and leading Moto to yet another victory. What does that spell?
Another Ravu tribal council meeting to exterminate another member from the island with this time Lisi's name being called. Are there any tears being shed for Lisi besides the one she was showering the parched sands of Fiji with? I think not! I think those were crocodile tears or at best the tears of a raving lunatic who contracted jungle fever. Lisi turned out to be the ultimate fence sitter. It was her constant wavering and indecisiveness which finally got her canned. Speaking of canned, someone get a proctologist to help get the splinters out of her backside.
And she called her fellow tribe mates losers? Gee, what on earth was she thinking? She spent more time on Exile Island than Mickey Mouse spends in his magic castle. And why not take a nap after telling members of Ravu where to look for the immunity idle and be left out of the Easter egg hunt? Heck. Mookie wasn't even truly one of you, but Alex and Ed are giving him a whole lotta of loving now that he found the second idle. Dreamz is in his own world, but give the guy credit; his bite matched up and supported the barking he was doing at Lisi.
It was good to see Rocky back sitting on his first jury meeting. For the first time on the show I really liked him. Why? He didn't say a word. It is good to let sleeping dogs lie, or better yet, let punch drunk contenders recall past glories. What was it, one victory for Ravu?
I really liked the dancing competition. I don't watch Dancing With The Stars, but I am guessing this reality show is as close as I will come to that one. What can I say? I am your typical jock; love football, baseball and hockey. With that said, did you see the black war paint on both tribes faces as they did their jig? Ravu's dance kinda reminded me of the Chicago Bears Super Bowl shuffle. Dreamz's back flip was the cherry on the sundae. At least it would determine who would feast. I don't know about any of you, but I didn't see members from Moto belching and blowing chunks after their feast. Oh yes, they didn't have brownies and beer to make them ill.
The time is fast approaching when the tribes are eventually coming together and becoming one. Gee, this is starting to sound like a U2 song! Everyone is now definitely jockeying for position as to who will be whose ally once the merger takes place. I find it interesting how some really are illusion, perhaps I should make that disillusioned about winning. Even before the vote Lisi thought she was untouchable. She thought Alex, Ed and herself were the most cohesive unit on the entire island. Just goes to show you that you can't trust anyone. Also, be careful what you ask for because you might get it. There might be a genie on the island (also known as Dreamz), wait make that "genie in the bottle because I grant wishes".
I find it interesting and fascinating how individuals on the island also started making comparisons to one another like toys on a shelf. Members are becoming more diligent in their assessments of others and the roles they play. Michele asserted her and Stacey were basically carbon copies of one another because she provides the same service to the members of the tribe. It was time for her to pow wow with Earl and perhaps start targeting Stacey before the merger. Though what if Stacey does the same with Earl? As Michele stated, they are like one in the same and perform the same role. What if Earl sees it that way too? I am thinking right now no one will be closer to Earl than Yau.
Yau has played the game right completely to the top of the tee so far. He hasn't ruffled anyone's feathers. He stays out of the way of the aggressors. He avoids conflicts like the plague. He conserves his energy. He knows his limits. Every man should know his limits. This is the proven ingredient for success versus failure. In the beginning I had a lot of people wrinkle their noses and roll their eyes at me when I said Yau Man would be around for a long while and I wouldn't be surprised if he arose as the phoenix from the ashes. A lot of members have now come and gone and good ole Yau is still there with immunity idol in hand.
Survivor has now become a thinking person's competition. If you feel that you have made enemies, the time is now to keep your enemies closer and see where they are all coming from. Generally, they say keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. I would assert the opposite will hold true for success. Most of your friends are probably going to be your greatest enemies when it comes time to stay or go home so you sure as heck better keep them closer to you than a brand new paint job on a 2007 Dodge!
As I stated right from the beginning of this competition. No man is an island but eventually the island will make you into a man, or woman, and you will feel like an island. The key now is to keep your bridges with other members in tact and try not to burn them either intentionally or unintentionally. In other words, don't rip people openly and brag and let everyone know how good you are. This is why Rocky was sliced a week ago and this is why Lisi was diced this week. If tradition holds true, Dreamz might not be too far behind. Will you do a back flip over that Dreamz?
