Survivor Fiji: The Art Of The Double Cross

Commentary by Peter Andrew Sacco Ph.D. (Psyche Doctor)
April 20, 2007
The most recent episode of Survivor Fiji definitely has to go down as the best episode to date. No doubt about it the one who I thought was the biggest snake on the island totally came out coiled and hissing! Dreamz delivered the ultimate hammer and double cross.

The four horsemen led by Alex with Mookie and Ed riding shotgun must have been in a state of shock, disbelief and flux after their fourth horseman Dreamz decided to pepper them with an old fashioned backstabbing which they never in their wildest "Dreamz" saw coming. The horsemen must feel like jack asses! In some countries Dre could be charged with treason and get a long prison term. Fortunately for him this is Survivor and he will only have to endure the wrath of Alex and Mookie for now. How Dreamz played both sides against the middle was sheer brilliance. It's funny how sipping Champaign and watching fireworks on a 60 foot yacht can change one's perspective and lead them to go over to the other team. Every man has their price!

We never really heard Dreamz scheming his plan as he is a soft talker and says little to begin with when it comes to planning the hammer, but however you slice it he played it right and actually came out looking like he had a stroke of brilliance! I am wondering how in the world Mookie, especially Alex would ever let Dreamz into their little group in the first place. They knew what he was about from his former track record and they still let him too far into their circle of trust.

The worst thing that Mookie could have ever done was show him the idol. I called this one a couple of weeks back and said it would come back and bite Mookie. And the way things were playing out it almost did! I thought after Mookie passed the idol off to Alex his goose was cooked. The funny part was is that he was just a hair away from being on the chopping block. The tribe thought Alex might have passed it back to Mookie so they went after Ed instead. Could you have imagined if they would have voted Mookie off the island? The potential for the ultimate meltdown was rearing its ugly head!

Jeff made a valid point about the dynamic of the group being changed from competition to competition. The fulcrum is always being adjusted and there is constant swinging on the balance beam. I am guessing from here on in all of the remaining Survivors will be walking a fine line. Trust no one!

The way things stand now, things can't be looking too good for Mookie. Two weeks ago it was Boo. Last week it was Stacey. I honestly thought both were dead in the water, especially Stacey. It just goes to show you how things can change in a flick of an eye. I would assert Mookie would be the prime candidate to get tossed, but I wouldn't bet on that one either. Who will Alex and Mookie woo to their defunct 4 horsemen group? I am guessing Dreamz will get his last rites as the two have definitely had enough of him!

Yau-Man was spectacular again in the second competition which granted him immunity, as if he really needed it. Other than Mookie and Alex thinking so, the rest of the tribe views Yau as the life of the party. I have said it all along and I will continue to say it. Brains will win out over brawn in a true survival situation. In the real world, someone like Yau would come out on top because he gets it! I am assuming the other members of the tribe know he gets it because they go to him for advice. I just knew Yau was going to win the "foot peg" competition. You just had to imagine the one with the less weight would make it. I thought Stacey would give him a closer run for his money. I was also impressed at the fact that Stacey went to Yau for advice. He was honest with her and she was smart to trust him.

I think the goal of the Yau led tribe is to now keep Alex and Mookie out at the periphery of the group. The strange part is they will now have to try and accommodate the thought of trusting Dreamz over the next couple of tribal councils. It would seem Yau, Earl, Cassandra and Boo are growing tighter than a soaked rubber glove. Is there a member who is capable of tearing them apart or driving a wedge into their chemistry and whatever bond of trust exists?

Mookie is hell-bent on getting even with Cassandra and getting her tossed. Cassandra wants to get rid of Mookie because she is afraid of him. Dreamz is the person all should worry about and perhaps take out because he will always be a swing vote. Damn the leak up before your ship starts to sink. Isn't it true that loose lips sink ships? Just ask Ed!

I hope Yau doesn't make the same mistake and pass off the idol to one of his comrades. Now is the time in the show where you have to look out for number one if you want to make it down to the final five. The true art of the double-cross will start to be presented in all shapes and sizes. Everything from here on in becomes a gamble as far as alliances go. You have to cut off the head to kill the snake. A bird in the hand may leave a mess but a snake in the grass can poison you and kill you. Tribe members, pick your poison!
