The Amazing Race 10: Friendship Cost Them The Race
Episode 8 Recap and Commentary By Cari C.

Last week on The Amazing Race we had the second non-elimination round. Once again Mary and David lucked out and managed to stay around. I don't know how they keep doing it but I love it. One thing I hate about reality television is that the people who deserve the money the most are not the one who necessarily wins it. If anyone ever deserved to win this money it is Mary and David. Of course I think at this point it is not even about the money for them. It is about the life experiences.
This week my least favorite team left is in first. The beauty queens who were the first to arrive at the Pit Stop are the first to depart at 3 am. Teams must now travel 700 miles to Madagascar. When they land in the capital city of Antananarivo they must search for the Black Angel, a local landmark. What they won't know is that the landmark has recently been painted white. Teams will find their next clue there. The girls head off to the local airport. Instead of taking their car, which they wrecked, they help themselves to someone else's car. Who wants to bet its Bama's?
At 3:05 Tyler and James departs. Poor James feels bad because he feels he has not done enough during the race. Instead of taking the bulls by the horns and making their way themselves, they decide to wait for Rob and Kim who get to depart at 3:09. They feel that the six-pack has forced them to make an alliance so they do. The two teams follow one another to the airport. At 4:04 the brothers get to leave but as usual they wait on the others. Bama departs at 4:05 while Mary and David leave at 4:08. Bama is ticked off to discover that the Beauty Queens have taken their car. The brothers offer to take the wrecked car and all three teams head to the airport.
At the airport the queens have arrived and discover the earliest flight out is at 11 am. They purchase tickets and soon all the teams have followed in their footsteps. At 11 am all the teams board a plane for Madagascar and are once again even. Once there the teams rush to gain some sort of a lead. The six-pack surges to the front of the pack but as always they are plagued by bad luck. You would think that since this Black Angel was such a big landmark there the cab drivers would be able to tell them it was recently painted white. Instead of getting to the clue box first, they pass the entrance and this allows Tyler and James, Rob and Kim, and the Queens to beat them. Instead of a normal clue box though, they find an Intersection.
An Intersection is a new twist this season. When the teams reach an intersection the teams will be forced to work together with another team and perform all tasks together until they are told different. If there are no teams at the Intersection the team must wait until another team shows up. Tyler and James hook up with Rob and Kim and leave the Queens hanging. The first group opens the clue and discovers a Fast Forward. In this second and last Fast Forward of the game, teams must travel two and half miles to a local market and find stall number eleven. There they will have to eat a plate of cow lips, which all four members must eat. Once they clean their plates they will receive the Fast Forward and be able to skip all other tasks and head directly to the Pit Stop. The group decides to try for the Fast Forward and head off to find the market.
The Queens continue to wait hoping that Bama is not the next team to show up. Lucky for them the Cho brothers are next and the two have to team up and do the Detour. This leaves Bama and Mary and David to team up. Mary wants to go for the Fast Forward but the others talk her out of it. Both teams decide to go for the Detour. In this Detour they must choose between Long Sleep and Short Letter. In Long sleep, teams must travel by van 2.2 miles to the local market. There they must choose eight foam mattresses and wrap them in mattress covers. They must then deliver them on foot one mile to the address provided. Once the mattresses are delivered the homeowner will give them the next clue. In Short Letter, teams must travel by van three and a half miles to a local paper making facility. Once there they must choose a paper making station and using local methods to produce and decorate 28 sheets of handcrafted paper. Once they have correctly made their paper they will receive their next clue. Both teams decide to deliver mattresses and head off.
Tyler and James and Rob and Kim.....
