I'm going to start by giving you a brief run down on both of the families. The first is the Joseph family. They live in the heart of Harlem. Octavia is the mother, Carl senior is the father, and they have 4 kids, Ashanti, Travis, Sean, and Carl Jr. who they so affectionately call Cash Flow. I personally like this family, it seems like they have a lot of family values. However, I think that someone needs to give Carl Senior a swift kick in the rear. Carl Sr. is his son's manager, and actually as stupid as it sounds, I think that Cash Flow is a good rapper. But it seems like they are depending on Cash Flow to make it big so that they will have more money. I do not really know what Carl Sr. does for a living. I think that he is just Cash Flow's manager. Octavia gets ready to leave and it seems like the only one who will miss her is her daughter Ashanti.
The Gibbons Family; they live in a beautiful house in a suburb of Boston. Lynne and Tom are the parents. They just got married in October in Hawaii and are obvious newlyweds. They each had 2 daughters, sort of like the Brady Bunch without all the sexual tension. The girls are all around the same age and 3 of them all gang up on one. It's kind of mean, but at the same time they are teenagers and its bound to happen.
The Switch. Octavia arrives first. It's actually a funny scene because you see Tom searching around for someone and he actually goes up to this random white lady asking her if she's waiting for someone, and then he finds Octavia. The car ride gets even funnier; it actually looked like a really uncomfortable car ride, silence the whole way. Then the part that really made me laugh the most was when Tom asked; "do you enjoy the hip hop and the rap music" I was actually speechless after I saw that. I think that he has never experienced a black person in his life except on TV. They arrive at the Gibbons house and Octavia feels uncomfortable because she has never been in a "mansion" before. When she walks in the room, the camera shoots around to reveal crazy looks on the girls' faces, like she was Quasimodo or some strange being. I felt bad for Octavia.
Now Lynne arrives. Carl Sr. didn't even go inside to greet her; he just stood outside doing baseball stretches until she figured out to go out side. The car ride home was different; Carl basically talked the whole time or was on the phone. When they arrive at the Joseph house cue the camera showing the neighborhood and then Lynne's face, she says that she is nervous. The kids all seem to greet her, all of them except Cash Flow. I think that Cash Flow thinks he's Tupac or something. I've got news for you buddy; you can't act like a big shot rapper until you are one honey! Lynne states that she feels out of place, so she decides to sit on the front steps with Carl. This was actually a fun scene. I think that Lynne holds her own on the streets.
The camera shows this shop with a bunch of seedy.....
