American Idol 7
4th Round of Auditions Recap by Jacob D.
January 23,2008

Last time on American Idol, the auditions went to San Diego which sucks for the auditioners because San Diego is so far away from Hollywood. Joking aside, the talent was in big supply and 31 guys and gals were put through to the next round. Now we are heading to Charleston, South Carolina. What new talent will we find here? Let's find out.

The first person we see is Oliver Highman, but not because he is heading into the audition room. Actually, he came to audition, but that morning, his wife went into labor so he's leaving to take her to the hospital. He hopes he can still come back and audition, but knows that the baby is more important right now.

Our first auditioner is 27 year old Raysharde Henderson from Atlanta, Georgia. He loves his afro and is always smiling. He claims people call him "the black Clay Aiken." I have a feeling this isn't going to go over very well. He auditions with Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and he's good for about the first two seconds. Then it's just cheesy and over-the-top. Randy says it was over-the-top and the judges pass on Raysharde.

Next is 26 year old DeAnna Prevatte from Albemarle, North Carolina. Yes, Kellie Pickler's hometown. If DeAnna makes it on the show, I hope she's not as stupid as Kellie. What's a ballsy? Anyway, DeAnna hopes American Idol works for her like it did for Kellie and then goes on some tangent about Kellie that I can't really decipher. DeAnna tells the judges that she's a waitress and Simon inevitably asks who her worst customer was. DeAnna can't pick one and just goes with the Sunday crowd, especially since her restaurant put in an "All you can eat" buffet. DeAnna sings Reba McEntire's "Fancy," a song Kellie sang on the show two years ago, and DeAnna is loud and twangy, but not so good. The judges pass on DeAnna.

Next up is an auditioning duo, 27 year old Randy Stark from Abilene, Texas, and 26 year old Crystal Ortiz from Raleigh, North Carolina. They're a couple who met through the American Idol message boards. Apparently, Randy is some kind of guru who gives out tips and advice and Crystal was someone who had a lot of questions for him. They hit it off and now they're auditioning for the show that brought them together. They audition together with Andy Griggs' "She's More" and they're not good singers, but you can't help, but like them because they're so in love. The judges pass, but at least Randy and Crystal have each other.

Jacob D. is a twenty-something native of Austin Tx who spends his time listening to music, posting on Austin based messageboards, playing video games, and watching TV. Jacob also enjoys reading Shonen Jump, Garfield and Calvin & Hobbes strips, playing Texas Hold 'em, drawing cartoon chickens, and tending to his neopets. Though shy in real life, he loves to sound off on his favorite shows and enjoys interacting with other fans.
