American Idol 7
Top 11
The Beatles' Repertoire
Recap by Jacob D.
March 18,2008

Previously on American Idol, the Top 12 performed the Lennon-McCartney songbook. After all was said and done, David H., Kristy, and Syesha made up the first bottom three of the season and David Hernandez was sent home. This week, everyone gets a second chance as they all perform songs from the Beatles' repertoire. Will those who performed well, such as Chikezie, David C., and Carly continue to do well? Will Syesha give a performance that keeps her out of the bottom three? Will those who messed up, namely David A. and Kristy, be able to redeem themselves? Let's find out.

Amanda Overmyer is the first to perform and her song will be "Back In The U.S.S.R." Amanda performs with pizzazz and has such stage presence, but I'm still wondering how well she can really sing. Her voice, for what it is, suits her style and that's fine, but how much more can she really do? She's been very one-note so far.

Randy: says there were pitch problems, but Amanda improved throughout
Paula: says her timing was off, but she does connect with her material
Simon: says it was messy and predictable and says she's in danger of becoming boring

After the performance, Ryan asks Amanda how she takes the judges advice. Amanda says she only has a minute and a half to show people what her shows are going to be like after the competition, but Simon corrects her by saying it's not over yet. It's like I keep saying: once this is all over, these people can go out and do whatever they want, but for the sake of this competition, they should change it up now and then to keep people interested.

Kristy Lee Cook is next and she'll be singing "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." The good thing is it's better than last week, but that's a half-hearted compliment considering how bad last week was for her. Once again though, she's insanely wooden and robotic in her performance, she is void of soul or emotion when she sings, and the music overwhelms her. For all the hype she got before the Top 24, including YouTube clips proclaiming her the future winner, she has been performing WAY under the bar set by the others. All five weeks so far have been bad for Kristy.
