American Idol 7 Which David Came Out on Top?
Recap by Jenny Lane
May 22, 2008
This week, the two Davids faced off in the American Idol finale. Thankfully, the finale was only an hour long. However, we're not so lucky with the final results show. We're in for 118 minutes of fluff and commercials, and two minutes of results, so brace yourselves!
First, Ryan announces that 97.5 million votes were cast after the final performances, a recordbreaker. He then tells us that one of the Davids received 56% of the votes, which means that the other David got 44%.
Next, a hello to the judges. Simon and Ryan are wearing matching plain black suits with plain white shirts. Ryan is also wearing a plain black tie, while Simon unfortunately has his shirt unbuttoned to his waist. Randy and Paula are also matching. Randy is in a bright red suit with white edging, a white shirt which is unbuttoned to reveal an odd black and white scarf underneath, and a multicolored hankie in the jacket pocket. Paula is wearing a tight, low (of course) red dress. Her bony chest is all slicked up and shimmery, and her mounds of hair are piled up on her head.
Ryan tells us that the "whole country is buzzing" about who will win, which I find a little amusing. Then we check in with the two hometowns. Former Idol, the obnoxious Mikalah Gordon is in Kansas City, Missouri, David Cook's hometown. She has squeezed herself into a tight gold dress that reveals her panty lines and interestingly, her bulging stomach. Regardless of the cause of the bulge, it was not the best wardrobe decision. We see a shot of a crowd that is in front of some office buildings, cheering and waving signs. Mikalah reminds us why her voice made us cringe, and tells us that "David Cook rocks!"
Meanwhile, in Salt Lake City, Utah, former contestant Matt Rogers is with David Archuleta's supporters. I actually had forgotten who Matt Rogers was until I saw him, now I vaguely remember him. Technically, David is from Provo, a suburb of Salt Lake City. Clearly, this David wins the prize for the largest crowd. It looks like they're in a stadium of some sort, and it's packed, or at least the part that they're showing us is.
