American Idol 7
ScoreBoard

By: Jacob D.
April 2, 2008

This week's episode of American Idol had the contestants singing songs from Dolly Parton's songbook. Here's who sang what:

Brooke White- "Jolene"
David Cook- "Little Sparrow"
Ramiele Malubay- "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind"
Jason Castro- "Travelin' Thru"
Carly Smithson- "Here You Come Again"
David Archuleta- "Smokey Mountain Memories"
Kristy Lee Cook- "Coat Of Many Colors"
Syesha Mercado- "I Will Always Love You"
Michael Johns- "It's All Wrong, But It's Alright"

On results night, Kristy made a return appearance to the bottom three and was joined by Ramiele and Brooke, both appearing for the first time. Brooke was sent back to safety, leaving Kristy and Ramiele as the bottom two. In the end, Ramiele Malubay was eliminated.
Rankings;

David Archuleta

Current Ranking: 1 - Previous Ranking: 2

David Archuleta, David Cook, and Michael Johns are now the only contestants left who have yet to visit the bottom three. David A. continues to be a frontrunner, though with strong performances from certain other contestants, he's no longer the runaway favorite. He gave a fantastic rendition of "Smokey Mountain Memories" and will not be in any real danger anytime soon.
Michael Johns

Current Ranking: 2- Previous Ranking: 3

After two slow starts at the beginning of the Top 12, Michael has really kicked things up a notch in the last two weeks. He showed energy and pizzazz with last week's performance and showed such soul and passion this week. Michael is a well-rounded guy and I love that he has shaken himself out of complacency. Keep it up, Michael!
David Cook

Current Ranking: 3 - Previous Ranking: 1

David falls to third not because he was bad, but because there were two performances I liked better. David sang "Little Sparrow," this time relying on his own wits and not a pre-existing cover by a pre-existing band/artist, and continues to show himself as a strong talent. David will go far in this competition.
Carly Smithson

Current Ranking: 4 - Previous Ranking: 6

Carly gave a nice rendition of "Here You Come Again" and stayed clear of the bottom three. I think she is one of the stronger talents in this year's cast and I feel her drive, I feel her passion. Sometimes, I wish she would scale back just a bit and not push too much. Still, I don't think she's going anywhere just yet.
Jason Castro

Current Ranking: 5 - Previous Ranking: 8

Jason gave his strongest performance since being in the Top 12 and bounced out of the bottom three. The thing is though, Jason's performances haven't differed or shown a ton of progression. He's not terrible, but he hasn't been extraordinary in a while. For that, I'm leaving him in the middle of the scoreboard.
Brooke White

Current Ranking: 6 - Previous Ranking: 4

Brooke took a hit and fell into the bottom three, but I don't think this spells the end for her just yet. Brooke is a breezy soul and her hook is her ability to connect with her songs on an emotional plane. She fell short this week, but I think she'll recover.
Syesha Mercado

Current Ranking: 7 - Previous Ranking: 9
Syesha is hard to read because her position is so inconsistent. One week she's in the bottom three, the next week she's not, and so on as if on cue. Is she popular? Is she a contender? I don't know, but I do think she's predictable and that won't help her out in the long run. She needs to take some more chances like when she sang "Tobacco Road."
Kristy Lee Cook

Current Ranking: 8 - Previous Ranking: 7

Kristy dropped into the bottom three for the third time in four weeks. Not only has she been in the bottom three so many times, she was in the bottom two all three times. Kristy doesn't have a chance at winning and is destined to be a bottom-feeder until she's eventually eliminated.
Ramiele Malubay

Ramiele Malubay was the fourth person voted out of American Idol 2008
