This week's episode of American Idol had the contestants singing two Neil Diamond songs each. Here's who sang what:
Jason Castro- "Forever In Blue Jeans"

David Cook- "I'm Alive"
"All I Really Need Is You"
Brooke White- "I'm A Believer"
"I Am...I Said"
David Archuleta- "Sweet Caroline"
"America"
Syesha Mercado- "Hello Again"
"Thank The Lord For The Night Time"
On results night, all the boys were safe while Brooke and Syesha comprised the bottom two. In the end, Brooke White was eliminated.

Say it with me: the Davids are running this show. Eight weeks now and neither one of them has graced the bottom group yet. If neither of him hits the bottom two next week, we could have an interesting situation where the finale consists of TWO contestants who never fell into the bottom group. We've had at least five situations where one contestant made the finale without being in the bottom group, but never two contestants. How cool would that be?
Anyways, whether both Davids make or it not and whether this David wins or David A. does, I think David Cook has shown himself to be the strongest contestant this season. He continues to show a great musicality, showcasing a strong, clear rock persona and an ability to adapt to whatever is thrown at him. I also like his cool demeanor and stage presence. I am hoping David makes it to the finale so I can vote for him to win. As it is, he still has two weeks to get through. I'm rooting for you, Mr. Cook!

David Archuleta

I think David is letting his lead slip. Through the first few weeks of the competition, he seemed untouchable, but now he's in a two-horse race. He is a phenomenal talent and sings really well, but he's so studied and operates in one mode, that we're not learning anything new or exciting about him. As it is, you can tell what David is going to do before he even opens his mouth. He continues to stay out of the bottom group, but I want to see him show us a different side to him.

Jason Castro

For two weeks now, Jason has given very middle-of-the-road performances. He continues to perform somewhere in the middle ground and doesn't seem to be fighting for his place in the competition. However, he once again stayed out of the bottom group which shows that he has a huge, active fanbase. He's charmed a lot of people, including me, but he needs to put forth more effort if he hopes to have a shot at winning.

Syesha Mercado
Current Ranking:4 - Previous Ranking: 5
Syesha is finally starting to come into her own, rather than just being a generic, "girl with a good voice." However, the problem is that it took her so long to get here. If she can deliver two knockout performances next week, she could squeak into the top three, but it's all up in the air as to whether that will happen. I mean, she's been in the bottom group six times now which, as far as I know, is a record.
