America's Got Talent: America’s Got… A Million Dollar Choice
Commentary by Donna Emery

This week on America’s Got Talent, the top 10 acts performed one last time to garner America’s votes and vie for the million dollar prize.
It left me wondering if any of them are truly worth a million dollars.
Most of these acts are talented, charming and sincerely dedicated to their craft. Some of them even seem likeable. But, during the finale I wondered if any of them are worth the big prize and a headline spot in Las Vegas.
The show began with its smarmy host, Nick Cannon, in his flashiest jacket yet. I think this one is from the Hugh Hefner collector. He went on to tell us how exiting the finale would be; how the performers were all one step closer to a million dollars. “For all of them, victory is so close,” he reminded everyone.
He went on to introduce the judges, who again decided to dress in black. Piers insincerely claimed there is no “clear favorite.” He predicted the finale would be exciting. Sharon encouraged the performers to “think about that million dollars. Thinking about it would inspire me.” Piers joked that Sharon was sporting at least a million dollars worth of bling on her wrist with her diamond bracelet.
David reminded everyone that the prize included an appearance in a Las Vegas show. “People will be paying money to see you. So, instead of losing money in Vegas, you’d be winning it. Your name would be on a billboard.”
Nick briefly showed us each of the finalists and then the night’s talent began.
1. Voices of Glory – they related how it had been hard to be in the bottom two after the semifinal vote; but when the judges put them through to the finals, they’d cried with joy.
They said being here was a dream come true. They’d been excited to go home and see their Mom, who is happy and proud of them.
They sang, “The Greatest Love of All”. They all looked wonderful in their lilac costumes, and though Nadia began a bit shakily, she again showed everyone why this group made it as far as they did. With her wonderful vocals and the brother’s dead-on harmony, they lifted the song into the stratosphere and gave a really great performance.
Piers joked that he was unhappy with the boys in the group, “because I thought I had the best suit here tonight.” He smiled and assured them “the little diva did her best tonight.” He reminded the kids their music had brought their Mom out of a coma, and now “you might be giving your Mom a check for a million dollars.”
Sharon felt “everything was in synch. We knew you had this caliber of act inside you. You can be proud of yourself.”
David said they hadn’t just brought their Mom out of a coma; “you brought Piers out of a coma.” He enthused that they’d scored a “hat trick, a slam dunk.”
2. Hairo Torres
Going through to the finale had been very emotional for him. He said he’d decided to show his true self to tonight’s audience and go back to his audition performance.
Although the act began with a spate of other dancers leading Hairo in, he was true to his promise and gave us all the solo moves he’d used to get him to the finale. His moves are amazing and we marvel when he does them, but I much preferred last week’s comedic performance. What was up with the ratty red sweatshirt? He’s a very talented man but this performance was probably the wrong choice, if he wanted to win the prize.
Sharon thought he’d taken a really big risk. “It was very emotional. You did the right thing and I loved the music. You should be proud.”
David said Hairo’s act was “ Vegas.” His emotional display “brought back Vegas.”
Piers decided to be honest. “It didn’t work. I love you. I think you should keep the other dancers in your act. You lost the fun in the act.”
3. Lawrence Beaman
Nick called him “the New.....
